48 Hour Giving Challenge

May 3rd and 4th are Give Big, a state-wide, 48-hour giving challenge for our community.

For 51 years, Northwest Folklife has celebrated and elevated folk traditions across the Pacific Northwest. We aim to create opportunities for ALL to experience and celebrate the thriving traditions of folk arts in our community– not just those who can afford the price of a ticket. You can help support that mission during Give Big.

We are also excited to announce that The Greco Family will be matching all gifts up to $10,000 to Northwest Folklife during the challenge!

WHERE TO STAY

New to the Festival

Makerspace

So often, festivals like ours rely on music, dance, and food--all of which are important--but we also want to emphasize that the folk tradition of making things is part and parcel of this experience.

Rooted in this new component is a DIY mentality.  Whether it's basket weaving, ceramics, or knot tying, these hands-on activities have deep origin stories worldwide.

By providing this Maker's Space, we hope to encourage and instill a sense of wonder and imagination in our creative energies and curiosities. In addition, we hope to pique people's interest in the deep well of resources and organizations that teach and engage those curiosities around the city, county, state, and region.

SHort Film Showcase

We are really excited to double-up our commitment to film as a storytelling vessel this year.

It is particularly important that we lean into film to help introduce new voices to our festival so that we are absorbing new stories and perspectives that introduce fresh interpretations of our evolving folklife.

With an emphasis on young people, BIPOC folx, LGBTQ voices, womxn, and emerging ideas and concepts, Folklife is stepping into our next 50 years with eyes looking forward, while also firmly planting our feet in soil that nurtures our roots, our history, and our fore-bearers.
