Soms komt alles samen:
1) dat je graag bomen wil planten in de stad waar je woont
2) dat de gemeentelijke groenbeheerder ook een kunstenaar blijkt te zijn die graag meedenkt
3) dat een vrouw die je niet kent opbelt en aanbiedt om de kosten van zo'n klein-bos-in-eigen-stad op zich te nemen. Haar eigen bosgrond heeft ze helaas moeten verkopen en de opbrengst steekt ze graag in nieuwe bomen.
Dan gaat alles heel snel: het planten van een spiraalvormig mini-bos in Den Haag staat op de agenda voor november van dit jaar! Kom je te zijner tijd helpen spitten?

AMSTERDAM De expositie in het Van Eesteren Museum is nog 10 dagen te zien. Op de foto bovenaan deze brief een voorproefje. Vier de lente en bezoek in het Paasweekend ook de extra activiteiten:
15 april: Boom in Amsterdam, documentaire. Filmmaker Agnes de Ruijter maakte er ook opnames voor toen wij bomen borduurden in Amsterdam in 2020.
16 april: Bomensafari rondom de Sloterplas met bomenspecialist Hans Kaljee, die in februari een lezing gaf en zijn jas bleek te hebben gerepareerd met een van onze blaadjes!

Het geborduurde bos komt naar Rotterdam! In de stilte van de Laurenskerk beleef je het kunstwerk weer op een nieuwe manier.

Op een nu nog kaal stuk grond, waar de lantaarnpalen hoger zijn dan de boompjes, zullen we nog dit najaar een minibos planten. Dit is een onderdeel van de 1.000 bomen die in Nederland geplant worden. Om de verbinding met het kunstwerk te behouden zal dit in de vorm van een spiraal gebeuren. Een klein bos vol kruiden, struiken, heesters en bomen, waar iedereen uit de wijk van kan genieten, in spelen en over een aantal jaar ook in klimmen!
Het mini-bos wordt in november 2022 in Wijkpark de Verademing in Den Haag geplant. Het benodigde budget komt voor een groot deel van de particuliere donateurs Carrie Ballard en Hugo Skoppek. Zij zagen zich vorig jaar genoodzaakt land in de VS te verkopen dat al drie generaties in de familie was. Vastbesloten een positieve wending te geven aan deze tragedie werden zij geïnspireerd door het bos van draad. Zo ontstond de wens het geld te gebruiken om een bos in hun huidige stad Den Haag te planten. Uit ons gezamenlijk verlangen komt dit najaar dus het spiraalbos voort. Met het beschikbare geld kan het vele jaren in stand worden gehouden tot de bomen heel oud zijn. Voor iedereen en voor de planeet.
In de aanloop wordt gewerkt aan natuureducatie voor basisscholen in de wijk en participatie van buurtbewoners. Iedereen is welkom om mee te werken op de plantdag in het najaar!
'A visual prayer', dat is hoe Clare Dubois, oprichter van TreeSisters, het bomenproject omschreef tijdens de overdracht van de donaties voor 99.000 echte bomen, te planten in de tropen.
Tijdens de bijeenkomst deelden de aanwezigen een intentie voor de natuur, werd het geld 'live' overgemaakt én werd er geproost. Het is de moeite waard om de ceremonie terug te kijken en de door Clare geleide oefening mee te doen (16:20). Ze verweeft het geven van geld, liefde en zuurstof tot een visualisatie waar je stil van wordt.
Op dinsdagochtenden komen mensen nog steeds samen bij borduurbegeleider Paola om te werken aan het borduurpatroon van het bos van draad. Voor hulp of gewoon voor de gezelligheid van het samen borduren.
Op de foto zie je Claar van der Ven die het idee naar een next level brengt door het patroon acht keer uit te voeren en er een mantel van te maken voor haar eigen kunstwerk.
Heb je ook zin om (op je eigen wijze) aan de slag te gaan met dit patroon? Het is nog steeds verkrijgbaar in de webshop.
Liever direct aan de slag voor de natuur? Met deze boomzaden kun jij zelf een klein verschil maken. Gewoon met je eigen handen en wat aandacht. Zaai de zaadjes nog dit voorjaar en weet dat er over dertig jaar een kind in klimt, om zich geborgen te voelen onder het bladerdek of uit te kijken over de verte.
In elk zakje zitten een paar honderd zaden van de Zwarte Els en de Harde Berk. Inclusief handleiding, ook voor als je geen tuin hebt.

/// VAN KADE TOT ZELFKANT ///
Leiden: stad van kunst en kennis, textielstad én stad van vluchtelingen. Die drie elementen komen allemaal samen in Van Kade tot Zelfkant, het community kunstproject dat deze zomer plaatsvindt in het Singelpark. Nina Mathijsen en ik maken in een mobiel atelier traditioneel Leids Saai, de stof die de stad in de 17e eeuw grote rijkdom bracht. Dat doen we niet alleen: iedereen kan deelnemen en de eeuwenoude technieken leren. Het resultaat is vanaf september te zien in Museum De Lakenhal.
Welkom in Leiden?! Van Kade tot Zelfkant is onderdeel van de tentoonstelling Welkom in Leiden?! die sinds 2020 in het Singelpark te zien is. Vrijheid, grenzen en migratie staan hierin centraal. De singels waren ooit de grenzen van de stad, maar zijn nu juist de plek waar we verbinding vinden. We komen er samen in het park, maken er een praatje met onze buurtbewoners en gaan er nu dus ook samen Saai maken. We stappen terug in de Leidse textiel- en migratiegeschiedenis maar kijken vooral vooruit.
Doe mee! Dit Leidse project kan niet zonder deelnemers! Heb je veel of nog helemaal geen ervaring in het werken met textiel? Weinig of juist veel tijd? Iedereen is welkom om mee te doen. Plezier, ontwikkeling en ontmoeting staan centraal. Aanmelden kan via de contactpagina op de website.

Sometimes everything comes together:
1) that you would like to plant trees in the city where you live
2) that the municipal green manager turns out to be an artist who likes to think along
3) that a woman you don't know calls and offers to pay for such a small-forest-in-town. She unfortunately had to sell her own land and she likes to put the proceeds into new trees.
Then everything goes very quickly: planting a spirally mini-forest in The Hague is on the agenda for November this year! Will you come and help dig in due course?

April 16: Tree safari around the Sloterplas with tree specialist Hans Kaljee, who gave a lecture in February and turned out to have repaired his coat with one of our leaves!

/// PLANTING TREES ///
We will plant a mini forest this autumn on a piece of ground that is still bare, where the lampposts are higher than the trees. This is part of the 1,000 trees that will be planted in the Netherlands. To maintain the connection with the artwork, this will take place in the form of a spiral. A small forest full of herbs, shrubs and trees, which everyone in the neighborhood can enjoy, play in and climb in within a few years!
The mini-forest will be planted in November 2022 in Wijkpark de Verademing in The Hague. Much of the required budget comes from private donors Carrie Ballard and Hugo Skoppek. Last year they were forced to sell land in the US that had been in the family for three generations. Determined to give a positive turn to this tragedy, they were inspired by the forest of thread. Thus arose the desire to use the money to plant a forest in their current city of The Hague. This autumn, the spiral forest will arise from our common desire. With the money available, it can be maintained for many years until the trees are very old. For everyone and for the planet.
In the run-up, work is being done on nature education for primary schools in the neighborhood and the participation of local residents. Everyone is welcome to participate on the planting day in the autumn!

On Tuesday mornings, people still gather with embroidery tutor Paola to work on the embroidery pattern of the threaded forest. For help or just for the fun of embroidering together.
In the photo you can see Claar van der Ven taking the idea to the next level by performing the pattern eight times and turning it into a cloak for her own artwork.

Prefer to get started right away for nature? With these tree seeds you can make a small difference yourself. Just with your own hands and some attention. Sow the seeds this spring and know that in thirty years a child will climb in, to feel safe under the foliage or to look out over the distance.
Each bag contains a few hundred seeds of the Black Alder and the Hard Birch. Includes manual, even if you don't have a garden.

Leiden: city of art and knowledge, textile city and city of refugees. These three elements all come together in Van Kade tot Zelfkant, the community art project that will take place this summer in the Singelpark. Nina Mathijsen and I make traditional Leids Baai in a mobile studio, the fabric that brought great wealth to the city in the 17th century. We don't do this alone: everyone can participate and learn the age-old techniques. The result can be seen in Museum De Lakenhal from September.
Welcome to Leiden?! Van Kade tot Zelfkant is part of the exhibition Welcome to Leiden?! which can be seen in the Singelpark since 2020. Freedom, borders and migration are central to this. The canals were once the boundaries of the city, but are now precisely the place where we find connections. We come together in the park, have a chat with our neighbors and are now going to make Boring together. We step back into Leiden's textile and migration history, but above all look ahead.
