Ukraine: How can we help?

We know that churches across the Diocese of Chester have already been responding generously and compassionately to the situation in Ukraine and that each and every person's situation and capacity to help will be different.

For those who are considering how they can help, there is some guidance and links to resources and support. It is divided into three sorts of responses:

Separate and specific guidance for clergy living in clergy housing and wanting to offer lodging to refugees has also been created

How one parish is "waging peace" on Putin


Congregations in the parish of Stockton Heath are "waging peace" on Putin by sending letters directly to him at the Kremlin in a simple act of "love" in support of the people of Ukraine. Could you do this too? 

In a warring world, what does resurrection look like? 


Writing to the diocese as part of his Easter message for 2022, Bishop Mark reflects on the resurrection of Jesus and the hope that it grants us, saying: "It accompanies the refugee, pursues the migrant, and clothes the homeless."

City Passion Chester returns

Following years of postponement due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Chester City Passion is set to return to the historic streets of Chester on Good Friday. 

Composer and director Matt Baker says: “It has been wonderful to finally be able to rehearse with a terrific company of actors, singers, musicians and drummers, in preparation for the telling of this well-known story in the unique setting of our beautiful city centre”.

This year the main role of Jesus will be played for the first time by Matt Banks of Ellesmere Port. Matt Banks says: “Though it is a really daunting prospect, it is a huge privilege to take on this role and perform alongside a talented company of players”.

The play begins on Eastgate Street on Good Friday at 10.30am and is free to everyone.

Over 40 people from parishes in the deaneries of Chester and Malpas are already registered for the Everyday Faith event on 26 April led by the Everyday Faith Team. Come and learn more about Everyday Faith with neighbouring parishes. 

Bishop Julie appointed to national safeguarding role


The Bishop of Birkenhead, Julie Conalty, has been appointed a deputy lead bishop for safeguarding with a focus on survivor engagement. She takes over from the Bishop of Southampton, Debbie Sellin.

A break for poetry lovers to listen to the work of others and for those who want to share a poem of their own. The next poetry break is on Thursday, 12 May 11:00 to 12:30pm. You are welcome to submit a poem on any theme you like for this session. To join, register here.

Responding to the refugee crisis

Many in our churches are wondering how best to help refugees from Ukraine and elsewhere. We are running this introductory webinar to provide basic information about sponsoring, supporting and welcoming refugees. It will also enable the diocese to gauge what support churches would most appreciate, and enable concerned individuals to link up with others in their area.
