8 APR: WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A COMMUNITY INDEPENDENT, EVENTS THIS MONTH & MORE

CAMPAIGN UPDATE: WEEK 29

It was a great pleasure to see so many familiar faces, and so many new ones, at this week's Meet the Candidate events. Looking around the packed room in Artarmon on Wednesday, I saw men and women, young and old, from right across our diverse community - all seeking real and honest representation.

North Sydney deserves to have our voice heard, and our vote matter. Yet right now our voice, represented by our member in Canberra, is lost in a two-party system that thinks that by voting for them, we have completely delegated our democratic right to be part of the decisions that shape our future.

For too long, we've been fed an entirely false dichotomy: that our politicians must serve either the Labor Party or the LNP, or somehow be "secret supporters" of one of those two. But here's the truth: Politicians exist to serve YOU, their constituents, not the other way around. At the end of the day, as an Independent candidate, I will never have to choose between following a party line or voting in the way my community wants. That's why we need to turn North Sydney independent, and take our seat back for our community.

North Sydney, this is our time. Let's change the climate in Canberra.

Independent Humans of North Sydney

Greg Taylor, Naremburn

Why do you want to change the climate in Canberra? I volunteered for Team Tink because I was appalled at the Federal Government’s lack of action on issues like climate change and political integrity. It was time for me to stand up, get involved, support the team and make a difference! I want to get Kylea to Canberra so she can make a difference for our community and many others.

What is your favourite thing to do in our electorate of North Sydney? My favourite pastime is walking our dog to the local coffee shop and around the lovely suburb of Naremburn. I also greatly enjoy installing Kylea’s corflutes all over the North Sydney electorate!

KYLEA TINK NEXT GENERATION

Next week is Politics in the Pub! On Wednesday 13 April, young people (under 30...ish...) are getting together at the Union Hotel in North Sydney to mingle, have a policy brainstorm, and pass our ideas on to Kylea in a Q&A. It's going to be a great opportunity for the youth of North Sydney to have a tangible input on the policy that Kylea takes with her to Canberra on the issues that matter to us most. You can sign up here. Think you're "too old"? Think again, or invite someone you know! There will be a free drink for all attendees.

Next Gen is firing on all cylinders with our social media - you can follow us on Tik Tok, Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. We'd love to have your support, and can't wait to have more young people involved in the conversation. Have any good ideas? We'd love to hear them!

NORTH SYDNEY'S INDEPENDENT

Such pure joy and relief to know all hotel detainees have finally been released this week!!! May it never happen again and may those responsible be held to account.

"Most people do not listen with the intent to understand. They listen with the intent to reply," according to '7 Habits' author Stephen Covey. Stephen of course had not come across community independent supporters like TeamTINK door knockers and phone callers! 😊
