Gippsland PHN priorities 2022 – 2025

 
Gippsland PHN undertook a full update of its Health Needs Assessment in 2021 with the help of many people and organisations across Gippsland.
 
A summary of Gippsland PHN priorities 2022 - 2025 is now available. 
 
The full Health Needs Assessment has been approved by the Commonwealth Department of Health and can be downloaded from the Gippsland PHN website

We are also inviting feedback and ask you to complete a short survey. Read more here.
 

Gippsland HealthPathways is changing
 

Gippsland Primary Health Network is implementing a new website platform of HealthPathways, which supports mobile technology.

On 5 April, a temporary banner appeared at the top of the HealthPathways Gippsland website, inviting health professionals to try the new platform. This 'soft launch' trial period will last for one month. After this time, the new site will become the default experience for all health professionals in Gippsland accessing Gippsland HealthPathways.

Two new priority issues papers


A high proportion of people in Gippsland consume alcohol at risky levels compared to the rest of Victoria.

This was revealed in one of two issue papers, titled Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD), released by the Gippsland Primary Health Network (Gippsland PHN) as part of addressing priority issues in the region.

A second paper, Sexual and Reproductive Health, identified that COVID-19 has impacted service provision in Gippsland with reductions in antenatal care and a change to more telehealth service delivery.

Dr Elisabeth Wearne joins Gippsland PHN Board


Gippsland PHN is pleased to welcome Dr Elisabeth Wearne to our Board of Directors.

Dr Wearne completed her undergraduate medical degree at Monash University and vocational GP training in Lakes Entrance, obtaining her FRACGP in 2010. In the 12 years training and working at Gippsland Lakes Community Health, Dr Wearne has provided clinical services to several East Gippsland towns including Aboriginal health services, Omeo District Health) and in youth healthcare provision roles.

Vaccine Helpers program expands


South Gippsland Shire Council has joined Latrobe City Council and Wellington Shire Council in supporting people having difficulty accessing their vaccination certificate or linking it to the Services Victoria app.

Gippsland Primary Health Network is funding the Vaccine Helpers program to assist community members who may be having difficulty with the process.

Better Health Program - free for eligible families in Gippsland region


Eligible families can self-refer on the Better Health Program website or be referred by a health professional.
 
The program is provided free for eligible families in Gippsland, supporting more children and adults to improve their diet and lifestyle habits.

New virtual Quit Centre


The National Quit Training and Resource Centre for Nicotine Cessation is a national best practice support service for nicotine cessation.

Launched by Quit and the Cancer Council of Victoria, the goal of the new virtual Quit Centre is to ensure Australian health professionals have the latest clinical information, resources and training on smoking and vaping cessation to support their patients as part of routine care.

Diabetes Symposium for Health Professionals

 
Diabetes Victoria in collaboration with Baker Institute will be holding its annual Diabetes Symposium for Health Professionals on Friday 6 May 2022
 
This year, the focus is on reducing the emphasis on numbers and bringing it back to what really matters, the person living with diabetes. This will be a hybrid event, with a limited number of face-to-face tickets available for $300 and live stream tickets for $250.

New Health Translations website


The Centre for Culture, Ethnicity & Health (CEH) has launched the new and improved Health Translations website with an enhanced online experience, making it easier to find multilingual resources in more than 100 languages.

healthtranslations.vic.gov.au offers the most reliable and complete collection of multilingual health and wellbeing resources for those working with culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
 

Australasian Sexual and Reproductive Health Day


Early bird registrations are now open for the Australasian Sexual and Reproductive Health Day - 29 August 2022.

The day will be co-located with the Joint Australasian HIV&AIDS and Sexual Health Conferences, face to face at the Sunshine Coast Convention Centre, Queensland.

Open access evidence platform


Gippsland PHN is a subscriber to the open access evidence platform Analysis and Policy Observatory (APO). The leading public policy repository covers the gamut of areas from health, education and social issues, to science and technology and the natural and built environment.

Several documents published by Gippsland PHN have been uploaded to APO, including Issues Papers, reports and peer-reviewed research articles.

Rural, regional and remote roundtable on health service access report

Consumers Health Forum of Australia and National Rural Health Alliance has released the final report from the joint roundtable held on 1 December 2021.

The report includes the solutions and ten recommendations that grassroots health consumers are seeking from government and other organisations to improve access to health services in rural, regional, and remote Australia.

New report: Cancer screening for people living with disability


This report is the second in Yooralla's Insights into Practice series, which provide plain language summaries of key topics in disability support.

People with disability are less likely to take part in national screening programs for bowel, breast and cervical cancers. This briefing discusses steps to increase participation rates. Click here to access the full summary.

Supportive care needs of men with prostate cancer: A systematic review update

 
Prostate cancer is now the second most commonly diagnosed male cancer worldwide. More than ever, there is a demand for general practitioners to provide support and meet the needs of a growing population of prostate cancer patients.

Passing the Message Stick
