NEWS AND EVENTS

Church office

Last Sunday we said thank you to Steve Norris for the six and a half years he has served as our Church Manager. He and Lindsay aren't going anywhere, of course, but we will miss Steve very much in the church office. With the retirement of the omnicompetent Peter Candy (our Premises and Estates Officer) at the end of February there is both a need and an opportunity to reorganise ourselves in the church office for our next chapter.

I am very grateful that Sarah Hagger (now Church Manager) will be increasing her hours and widening her responsibilities, including administering DBS applications as our Lead Recruiter. But I am also delighted that Sarah's new role will give opportunity for her to use her pastoral gifts more in the life of the church family.

For some time Hugh Bourne has been responsible for our day-to-day tech and communications and he is going to add to those an operational oversight to what we do, tying the pastoral ministry and office ministry closer together and making sure we work as well as we can. Hugh is a gifted pastor and preacher and we don't want to take him away from these duties, of course. Please pray for him and give thanks for our terrific team in the church office (Sarah, Maria, Mandy and wonderful volunteers) as we try this new arrangement.

Finally, we will now be advertising for a Facilities Manager to oversee our buildings and buildings-related administration. If you know someone who might be suitable do give them a gentle nudge! All this is spiritual work and we need people 'full of the Spirit and wisdom' (Acts 6:3).

Facilities Manager role

For more information about this exciting role, please visit our website at www.allsaintslindfield.org/vacancies
Please pass on to those who you think may be interested in such a role. Applications close at 5.00pm on Friday 13 May. If you'd like an informal conversation about this role, please speak with Hugh Bourne.

Holiday Club

Next Tuesday and Wednesday we will be welcoming 120 children into All Saints Church for our holiday club. Please pray for Janine Bending, our Children's Pastor and the fantastic team of church members that will be putting it on. Pray for all the conversations with the children and their families, for children to respond to the gospel talks, for fun and for safety. Please note, the church building will look a bit different from Monday (11th) as the pirate props are all set up, but rest assured it will all be cleared away and ready for our Easter events later in the week.

Also, for those of you who use the church carpark, please note that it will be closed to cars from 9.00pm this Sunday 10th until Wednesday 13th at 4.00pm inclusive.
As many of the staff team are involved in helping with the Holiday Club, please bear with us if there is no-one available to answer your phone call or contact with the church office over those few days.

Easter Lily Collection: final call

The Lily collection will be closing on Wednesday evening to allow the flower team to prepare the dedication list in memory of our loved ones.
We will decorate the church at Easter with the Lilies and will place a dedication list in the Memorial Chapel. We have set up a link on Churchsuite to make a donation. You will find the link in My Giving. Click on the drop-down menu from General Giving to find Easter Lilies.
After making the donation please could you send an email with the name of your loved one to fiona.laine@gmail.com Envelopes will also be available in the porch to make a donation but we do encourage you if possible to use the online link. Please post your completed form in the envelope along with your donation through the Tiger letterbox. Thank you. The Flower Team

Malcolm Springall

A service of Thanksgiving for Malcolm will take place on Tuesday 19 April at 2.00pm in All Saints, following a family-only cremation in the morning. Pauline, Helen and Julie extend a warm welcome to the church family to join them in giving thanks to God for Malcolm's life, and to stay on for refreshments in the Tiger Lounge afterwards.

Can you help with Bentswood Hub?

The Bentswood Hub is run with the support of the Bentswood Community Partnership and they are looking for more volunteer drivers to collect leftover fresh food from four supermarkets between 9.00pm and 10.00pm. The need is great and the food is given away the following day to anyone needing it. The Hub is looking for volunteers with estate or hatchback cars, to either do one night a week or be on a reserve list. Two members of All Saints already help with this, so you could find out more from an actual volunteer or have a word with Sarah Hagger in the church office on 482405.

Seasons of Change: Carol’s story

This month we bring you a new contribution to our Seasons of Change series. Carol is married to Robin, and they have three grown up boys. Having recently retired from a teaching career, she’s been reflecting on the changes she’s experienced and the things God has been teaching her. Do read it, even if it is a long time until you can think about retiring or it is a long time since! Or why not send it to someone to whom it might be relevant. One of the purposes of this series is to help the Body of Christ understand and love one another better through different seasons. You can find it by following this link:

MISSION
Mission Partner Focus: Ian and Anne-Marie Prescott

Ian and Anne-Marie with OMF International based in Lindfield, developing OMF’s ministry among Vietnamese diaspora internationally (Vietnamese living outside of Vietnam) (part time) and seconded to Global Connections as Catalysts for Diaspora Ministry (part time).

Please pray
  • For work on a tract about God’s unconditional love in both Vietnamese and Japanese, for Japanese Christians to use with the many Vietnamese coming to Japan. We are working with colleagues in Japan, using an existing tract available in Vietnam. Pray God would use this to encourage Japanese Christians to share the love they have experienced with the ‘strangers’ in their midst
  • For a visit to Germany to encourage the OMFer working with the Vietnamese in the Berlin area, 12-16 May
  • Ian then continues to the South of Germany to meet with the OMF Beyond Borders steering group, 17-20 May
  • For God to raise up workers for both Japan and Taiwan to serve among the Vietnamese. In both countries there are large numbers of diaspora Vietnamese
  • Continue to pray for Ian as chairman of the search committee for a new General Director for OMF. Pray for God’s direction to the person of his choice for this important role.

Give thanks for
  • Travel opening up internationally. This has allowed a number of conferences postponed since 2020 to go ahead. Ian will be speaking at one in Thailand in July. Ian and Anne-Marie will both participate in two others in October
  • Give thanks for the Christians among the people God has brought to this country, particularly thinking of those from Hong Kong who have arrived in the last year
  • For visas for colleagues already working in Vietnam or hoping to do so in the coming months
  • Michael (our son) and his wife Noelle as they expect their first child in mid-September. They now live in Birmingham, Alabama.
