BEIT EMANUEL MATTERS

Happening this Shabbat

Please join us in the Shul (or on Zoom) on Friday evening at 18h00 for our Kabbalat Shabbat hybrid service. This will be followed by a Brocha in the Janks Hall, sponsored this week by Sophia Bogolubov.

Thanks to Marion Joseph for donating the beautiful vases to be used for the flowers on our Friday evening Brocha tables. (Thanks to Lesley Hudson for introducing this little touch at last week’s Brocha.)

Our Shabbat Morning Service will be in the Boardroom at 09h30 on Saturday morning, and will be followed by a Brocha in the Atrium. The service will be led by Professor Merle Williams in Rabbi Saar’s absence. Our grateful thanks to Merle for stepping in to help. (Although the format of the service does allow for some Zoom participation, the service is best experienced in person.)

Our Talmud Study Group meets in the Gillis Boardroom at 12h00, while the Scrabble Club (an external activity) will be in the Atrium (Courtyard) from 13h30.

Recruitment drive for our Volunteer Security Team

We need a few good men and women (anyone 18 and over) to bolster our volunteer security team, which didn’t have a role during lockdown. We are hoping to be able to introduce a roster covering Friday evenings, Festival/Holiday evenings and mornings and other special events. Training will be provided, both in-house and through the CSO, and we hope to recruit enough volunteers so that each person will only have to be on duty once every 6-8 weeks.

Please chat to Graeme Hochschild, Peter Joseph or Virgil Challens if you’d like to find out more, or send your details to Morgana Segel (contact details in the footer).

In the interim, John Sherriffs and some of our other core members will be manning the gate on Friday evenings.

Easter Eggs and soap for the Sarmies Project

On Thursday, 14 April we’d like to make sure that everyone who comes for sarmies, fruit, e’Pap, soup and noodles also gets a treat of an Easter Egg and bar of soap.  So next week please think about sending a couple of Easter Eggs and a bar of soap or two along with your usual donations.

Message from Barry Levin

I received the following message of thanks from Barry Levin, a member of the Beit Emanuel Choir until lockdown and his subsequent illness:

"I just wanted to thank you, Rabbi Sa'ar and the Shul for all the messages of support regarding my recent illness. It is very much appreciated.
The good news is that I have recovered, in remission and am happy to report that my name may be removed from the weekly bulletin.
Please accept my gratitude with this donation."

We hope that Barry continues to enjoy good health!

Youth Communal Roundtable Meeting

This was to have taken place this weekend, but has now been postponed to a future date. Details will be announced in due course.

Shabbat Shalom!

HOUSEKEEPING

Maintenance issues

We are very proud of the manner in which housekeeping, maintenance and repairs to the Campus are attended to, on an extremely tight budget. If you do come across any issues of that nature while you’re on Campus, please report them to Morgana (contact details in the footer) and they will be attended to.

Staying in touch

We know that, when you’re moving house, letting the Shul know about your change of address may not be top of mind. Once you’ve settled in, though, please just drop us a note so that we can stay in touch with you. These are the contact detail changes we’d really like to know about. Please let Morgana know about these and she’ll inform the rest of us.
