Share The Cities Action Fund and Share The Cities Community Education volunteers and leadership attended the 2022 YIMBYtown Conference in Portland. The event gave us opportunities to support legal representation for renters, we sang with youth to protest freeway expansion, and we listened to panels about tree canopy, historic preservation, social housing, and federal zoning reforms.
You can listen to the live streams of all the panels by visiting the conference website. We appreciated the focus on housing abundance, as it fits into a broad range of strategies to make our cities climate-friendly, more fair and more welcoming.
Laura's favorite workshop was Gender, Sexuality and Abundant Housing. "Cities have historically always been sanctuary for the queer community. Yet as American sexuality and gender roles have expanded and evolved, our housing paradigms have not, and the LGBTQ population suffers from higher rates of housing precarity on every metric. How can zoning codes and housing policy more broadly make a community more inclusive, welcoming and affordable? This panel will acknowledge the ways that the norms of “single family homes” mirror the norms of heteronormativity, and more broadly touch on the need for further overlap and collaboration between LGBTQ+ advocates and those for abundant and affordable housing." Join Upgrade King County volunteers who are working towards public broadband and digital equity, in saying YES to an East King County Public Utility District.
On April 23 please gather signatures for EKC PUD with the Ecosocialist Caucus of Seattle DSA. Signature gathering will be in the proposed PUD service area, roughly north of I-90 to the Snohomish border. Fill out this form to arrange transportation buddies, and more!
And then on April 28 come to our party from 5:45 pm - 7:15 pm in Columbia City.

Share The Cities Community Education
- #WallingfordForAll will meet online on May 3 to discuss our work in May and June knocking on doors and talking to neighbors about a proposed historic district. We also are hosting a virtual event on May 24 about Climate, Trees & Historic Districts. Wallingford residents and businesses are needed to support Wallingford for All.
- Our founder, Laura Loe, has been asked to speak to a local high school classroom about redlining and housing and racial covenants in May.
- Affordable Talaris’ volunteers will be tabling at a number of events this summer.

- Join us in supporting the House Our Neighbors campaign for social housing in Seattle.
- Live in Shoreline? Please stay engaged during upcoming comprehensive plan changes.
- Shelter space is limited, tiny house villages place limits on couples and pets, sweeps are wrong and destabilize people when they need stability the most. These are our neighbors and friends. Email council@seattle.gov and tell them to Stop The Sweeps and provide community members experiencing homelessness with the supports they are asking for. This past week one of the two camps we've been supporting since 2020 was "swept". It was painful, scary, and heartbreaking. Sweeps are immoral. Read this thread.

Tech 4 Housing
Do you work in tech and want to advocate for affordable housing? Tech 4 Housing is starting up our meetings again (after a COVID hiatus) and would love to have you join! Upcoming advocacy efforts include supporting the I-135 social housing initiative, the upcoming Comprehensive plan process, and fighting the repeal efforts of the capital gains tax. Our group is open to professionals, students, and tech enthusiasts, in technical or non-technical roles.
