Dean's Message
Miranda Wilcox

 Dear Friends,

Last month we enjoyed delightful performances of Bach and Buxtehude; here is the printed program. Many thanks to the recitalists, to the Provo Central Stake Center and President Harmon for hosting the event, to Heidi Rodeback for the wonderful program notes, to Laura Pettersson for arranging practice times, and to Ruth Ann Hay and Katherine Rosenvall for refreshments, including a cake for Bach’s birthday.

This month, the BYU organ students have invited the chapter to attend a preview of their historic German organ tour on Monday, April 11 at 5:00 pm in the Madsen Recital Hall in the Harris Fine Arts Center. Our chapter awarded scholarships to Samantha Greenhalgh, Landon Finch, and Levi Kelley to offset costs on their study abroad adventure. Samantha, Landon, and Levi will share their experiences in Germany with the chapter after their return.

Super Saturday has been postponed until the fall. Due to the omicron surge this winter, we were unable to secure a venue this spring. If you have ideas for classes or would like to help with Super Saturday, please contact Jennifer Morgan at musicalmom@gmail.com.

Our final activity of the season will be a chapter informal at the Spanish Fork Stake Center on Friday, May 20 at 7:00 pm. We thank Jack Stoneman for hosting the event. Please bring a piece or two to share with our chapter. You can download the organ stop list for the refurbished and expanded Wicks Op. 5193 below. We look forward to a fun evening of making music with friends.

Happy Spring!
Miranda

Adam Losser

I’m 21 years old, and I attended the 2016 POE in Salt Lake City. It was awesome! I let my membership expire, but I saw that membership was free this year, so I thought, “why not?” I'm looking forward to attending some of the chapter's events.
Joel Rodeback

Joel Rodeback is a native of American Fork, Utah, and is currently completing a Master of Music degree in French Horn at The Juilliard School in New York City. He has been playing the organ as a hobby for six years, and is an organist for his LDS ward in Harlem, New York. Outside of music, he enjoys hiking, watching classic movies, and reading biographies and novels.
Condolences
Dr. Jay Cordell Bott unexpectedly passed away in his sleep, Saturday, February 19, 2022. He was a member of the Utah Valley Chapter of the AGO. Cordell loved the fine arts and music. He played the piano and cornet when he was young. He became an extraordinary pianist. Cordell also composed his own music. He loved to play the organ and served as the church organist.

The National Convention of the American Guild of Organists is held biennially in even-numbered years and reflects the diverse aspects of the Guild and its official work across the country. Held as a function of the national organization in partnership with a selected chapter, it represents a coalition between the national leadership and the host chapter’s leadership. This joint venture combines the talents and creative strengths of each, and represents the larger vision of the whole membership and its needs.

The AGO holds both national and regional conventions. The regional conventions are held during the summers of odd-numbered years. For more information on national and regional conventions, please visit the AGO website, www.agohq.org.

The five accomplished Tabernacle and Temple Square organists, Richard Elliott, Andrew Unsworth, Brian Mathias, Linda Margetts, and Joseph Peeples, plus occasional guest organists, are featured in this online concert stream:

One year free Guild membership for all current, lapsed, and new members under the age of 30. In an effort to grow the community of younger musicians in the pipe organ field, the American Guild of Organists has declared this year the “Year of the Young Organist.” Through the sharing of performances by young musicians and the publication of resources, we hope to bring more visibility to the new generation of musicians.

National AGO events and new initiatives to be held throughout the year.
