Hey <<First Name>>,

Thanks for tuning in! It's been an eventful month here at Shelter—in large part thanks to YOU. Here’s an update on what we've been working on:

Please take our member survey!
Are you interested in sharing your voice with us? Let us know how you feel about Legacy Lodge, Northern South Park, and more!

We are a member-led organization and we want to make sure we are supporting and representing our members effectively. Representation is especially important as we enter the 2022 election season and prepare to release endorsements! Please take the time to fill out this five-minute survey.

ShelterJH member and local artist Maria Sengle recently created some graphics for us! Thanks Maria!

Join our Election Taskforce
Can you believe that election season is right around the corner? We are looking forward to flexing our c4 muscle by educating voters and endorsing candidates. Are you interested in helping interview candidates, empower voters, and/or plan our election season events? Let us know: info@shelterjh.org.

Pursue federal funding now!
Great news: the Town Council voted unanimously to pursue hiring a consultant to help them apply for the massive amount of federal funding available!

Last month, we organized a meeting with community leaders and Sustainable Strategies DC, a consulting firm that assists entities in accessing public grant funding. We are so glad that the Councilors are moving forward with pursuing this monumental amount of money to address community goals, including our housing emergency. Read our original comment letter here.

Legacy Lodge update
The County Planning Commissioners recommended approval for the change of use for Legacy Lodge to make it available to local workers. We would support this change if the County Commission adds conditions requiring income-linked affordable homes and meaningful deed restrictions to ensure the homes serve locals.

The County Commissioners will consider this proposal at their meeting on April 12. Read this article for more details.

Housing Needs Assessment released!
The Housing Department released the Housing Needs Assessment early this month! This report provides the latest statistics regarding job growth, wage stagnation, and the extent of the housing emergency we are facing. You can check out the full report here and a summary presentation here.

ISO Photographer
We are looking for a photographer/photo enthusiast to take some photos of the ShelterJH staff and board members at our retreat on Monday, April 25! This photo session shouldn't take more than a half hour. The timing can range anywhere between 3:30-8:30pm. If you're not already a member, we will consider this effort a donation and make you a member! If you're available and interested, please email us: info@shelterjh.org.

Hot Topics in Housing
ShelterJH members share relevant articles with one another through our Google Group. Here are what our conversations have been about this month:

Join Us!
If you’re not already a member, please join our movement. We suggest a donation of $20 per year; however, we want our membership to be as accessible as possible, so please pay what you can. Members receive access to special meetings, vote on the Board of Directors, and help set the vision and trajectory for the organization. Already a member? Forward this email to five friends who care about the housing emergency!

As always, I am here to answer any questions. Thanks for your steadfast support of ShelterJH!

Best,

Clare Stumpf
