Join Us for Our Spring Series!

We’re going to get into all of it this season, and we’re bringing friends to join us on our ride! In three new workshops, we'll be covering Pro Tools hacks and tips, what goes where in story structure, and best practices for writing podcast copy for titles, blurbs, intros, credits, and more.
We're excited to welcome Florence Barrau-Adams, who has decades of experience using Pro Tools as well as working in production and sound design, to share time-saving tips and best practices for setting up and optimizing your Pro Tools sessions as a solo creator. In this workshop, we'll examine session parameters, folder hierarchy, useful preferences, how to import media correctly, overcoming challenges, and more. You'll walk away with time-saving techniques that will allow you to devote more time to other aspects of your creative process.
Next, Peabody-Award winner Jen Chien will give us an in-depth breakdown of what goes where in story structure, including techniques and tools for editing audio stories. You will learn what goes where when creating your story and how to recognize and address structural problems.
Our CEO Juleyka Lantigua will conclude the series by providing a closer look at all the original writing that goes into publishing a podcast, and best practices for writing copy. She'll cover how each section, from titles and blurbs to credits and transitions, can most effectively represent your audio and optimize for SEO.
Registration is now open. Secure your spot for all three webinars in the series at a reduced rate through April 20.

What We're Into

The Download from Sounds ProfitableTune in to Sounds Profitable's The DownloadThis weekly podcast covers the most important news in podcasting and why it matters to people in the business of podcasting. New episodes drop every Friday. Subscribe so you never miss an episode.

What We're Listening To

  • From Us: This week we're celebrating 100 episodes of How to Talk to [Mamí & Papí] about Anything. A big thank you to all our guests, team, and most importantly our incredible listeners who have stuck with us through it all. Together we got real and vulnerable about the complicated intergenerational dynamics that we often face in first-gen and immigrant households, and we've learned so much along the way. Our 100th episode examines the challenges first-gens face when their chosen career path doesn't fit their parent's definition of success.
  • From Other Folks: Get a closer look into the history of mezcal in The Nectar Corridor (or El corredor del néctar in Spanish), a show that examines the story and culture of the popular spirit and agave plant, the stories of the people involved at every stage of its production, and its role in the wider ecosystem of Oaxaca, Mexico, the capital of mezcal.

Overheard on Podcasting, Seriously Live

This week on Podcasting, Seriously Live on Twitter Spaces, we welcomed Paulina Velasco, LWC Studios’ managing producer, to discuss editing an interview for podcasts vs radio. Paulina has experience across several podcasts and public radio programs and has filed stories for KCRW, Marketplace, and The Guardian, among others. Some takeaways are:

  • Podcast listeners curate their own experience in a way that they don't get to do when listening to radio. When you tune into a radio station, you only hear what the station is airing at that time. This makes podcasting a more personal medium.
  • You have more responsibility when you're editing for a podcast than for radio. "I feel you have more responsibility to your listener. Podcasts live longer. Podcasts exist forever. Once radio segments air, it's kind of over. Podcasts also give you more creativity and flexibility, which also comes aside as responsibility," she says.
  • Podcast listeners are far more diverse than radio audiences, which is something that podcasters need to take into consideration when creating content and editing their show.
  • The 'shelf life' for podcasts are much longer, which allows podcast interviews to be deeper than in radio. When booking guest for podcasts, there's more freedom to invite people who are more opinionated because you have more room to prepare. "You can prepare for it more because you don't have a seven minute time slot in the radio hour clock that you need to fill. You can make it as long as you want," Paulina mentions.
