Our Island Community
MV Climate Action Week
Barb Caseau and Rebecca Gilbert have been on the planning team representing UUSMV.  Climate Action Week, May 8 – 14, is a major community engagement component of the Climate Action Plan (CAP), which is being developed by the Martha’s Vineyard Commission and over 100 local residents to address climate impacts on our Island.   For more information on events go to:  www.thevineyardway.org

No Lilies for Kitties
This is the time of year veterinarians see an uptick in lily toxicosis in cats.  Lilies of the genuses Lilium and Hemerocallis are extraordinarily toxic to kitties - all parts of the lilies including the pollen can be deadly to cats.  So the Pet Poison Helpline has a long standing campaign to educate cat owners about this issue.  Please visit www.petpoisonhotline.com for helpful information about the health and safety of your cat.

Easter Dinners
MVCOH will be distributing Easter dinners to islanders facing food insecurity. Please consider making a donation.  The cost of one family dinner is $40.  Send donation to Vineyard Committee on Hunger, PO Box 4685, Vineyard Haven, MA 02568 or go to their website www.hungercommittee.org

Climate resolution for 2022
There are about 3 trillion trees on Earth, which is half as many as 12,000 years ago, at the start of human civilization. “Tree planting is our best bet to mitigate climate cha
nge,” says Eric Sprague,  American Forests VP of Forest Restoration. “And we need to start now so that the forests can realize their potential [to sequester CO2] in the decades to come.”  Trees alone won’t stabilize climate change, but they can help.  Plant one or more trees every year or donate to a conservation organization to plant trees on your behalf.
