Hi <<First Name>>! Welcome to AP's April newsletter

After the Russian invastion of Ukraine, we find ourselves in a context of great public attention to armed conflicts and their resolution. Hence, it is important to create opportunities to bring the spotlight on the work done by and in the peacebuilding sector, as will do at the Bologna Peacebuilding Forum on 3-5 May 2022. Here, experts, professionals and scholars from different fields will meet to discuss and engage with the public, this year in particular on conflict prevention.

In the meantime, the war in Ukraine continues, as well as the non-violent resistance that is carried out by Ukrainians who decide not to take up arms, as AP associate Valentina Bartolucci writes with Giorgio Gallo in "On the side of peace".

In addition, in the past month AP has participated in a series of conferences on Gender, Peace and Security to discuss the role of women in peace processes. The events contribute to the debate to strengthen the implementation of UN Resolution 1325 and for a more inclusive Women, Peace and Security agenda.

Meet the speakers of the Fourth Edition of the BPF

On 3 May, AP will present and launch the first report on Italy's infrastructure and practices in the peacebuilding and conflict prevention domain. The study takes stock of the capabilities of Italian political institutions and non-governmental actors on peace and how they work in conflict-affected areas. The debate will be moderated by journalist Laura Silvia Battaglia, and will see the participation of Councilor Anna Lisa Boni, Donata Garrasi, political and security strategist, and Bernardo Venturi, AP's Director.

On May 4, during the conference Re-Imagining Conflict Prevention, our distinguished guests and speakers will discuss the potential of prevention in light of the challenges arising with the war in Ukraine, as well as systemic prevention and early warning mechanisms. To close the day, the keynote exchange between Bert Koenders, World Bank Special Envoy on Fragility, and Sara Gandolfi, journalist of Corriere della Sera, will reflect on the future of prevention.

Gender, Peace and Security: series of conferences

From the Bosnia and Herzegovina war to date, the role of women in peace processes has significantly changed, but much remains to be done. In the light of old challenges and new scenarios, AP supported the roundtable "Women and Conflicts: from Sarajevo to Kyiv," which reflected on the role of women in peacebuilding.

This roundtable is part of a cycle of events organized by the University of Bologna in collaboration with AP. Save the date for the next conference on 19 May 2022: "The Future of Women in Peace and Security: Perspectives from the North and the South of the Mediterranean."

In addition, AP associate Michail Silvestro Sustersic, participated in the panel "Gender, Peace and Security: towards a more inclusive agenda", on UNSCR 1325, the foundational element in the gender approach to Peace and Security unanimously adopted on 31 October 2000.
