Dear Colleagues,

We sincerely hope you are not reading this email too immediately, and that you are reading it after getting significant rest during Spring Break!

Did you hear? Our April 11 Staff Day will be in person with ALL schools.

Right before break, we all got an invitation to gather at HTH Mesa from 8am to noon on our first day back after break. (Look for the email titled “Live Music, Food and Space with Each Other: All Staff Spring Project”) This is the first day all school year that we will be connecting in person with colleagues from all schools. As a union that formed during distance learning, we have mostly connected on Zoom - this is a chance for us to see each other off of a screen!

This is a chance to connect as humans AND to advocate for our priorities as professionals.

Our next bargaining date is the Thursday after break (March 14th.) If you have been following our bargaining updates, you know that progress has been slow. From conversations at schools, we know how many staff urgently want to see progress at the bargaining table, especially as we get close to the end of the school year.

Staff has democratically elected a bargaining team and shared collective priorities. Let leadership know how important your priorities are! We want to protect PBL, ensure a qualified teacher and support for every classroom, cultivate sustainable and stable working conditions, and earn equitable pay as educators.

We hope that after a day of connection and play on Monday, central leadership will be motivated to come to Thursday’s bargaining table with proposals that show they value us as professionals.

Visually show our collective power by wearing BLUE!

Show up to the staff day wearing your blue union shirts and buttons! If you don’t have any union swag yet, look for blue balloons in the parking lot when you arrive - we will have folks passing out shirts and buttons between 7:30 and 8:00, or just find us covered in extra buttons later during breakfast!

P.S. Do you know how to request reimbursement for gas?

In case you didn’t notice, gas is not cheap right now. Especially for staff driving from opposite ends of the county, just a reminder that there is a mileage reimbursement form available from the business office. This is the current version as of January 2022, but up-to-date forms are always available on The Hive

We hope to connect soon!

In Solidarity,

The High Tech Education Collective
