On Saturday, April 2nd, the winter guard performed at Lyndon B. Johnson High School in Laredo, TX. This is the 2nd time in the school's history that the guard has earned a medal and the first State Championship win! The guard also received plaques for "Participation", "Best General Effect" and "Best Movement".

Varsity Track Wins District
|
|
The MIGHTY SOUTH HAWKS varsity teams did an outstanding job at the District meet! The South Hawks boys varsity team came in second and the Lady Hawks claimed the 32-6A District Championship title!

The MIGHTY SOUTH HAWKS sub varsity finished their season strong. The final teams standings at district were JV boys, freshman boys and girls taking home first; while the JV girls finished 3rd.

The girls Varsity Soccer finished 9-5 in district play. They finished 3rd overall, making it to the first round of the playoffs.

Soloist Receives Top Honor & Scholarship
|
|
Izaiah Gonzales took part in the 2022 McAllen Wind Ensemble Student Solo Competition and placed first overall, earning a $500 scholarship! Gonzalez received his scholarship at the McAllen Wind Ensemble concert April 5th and was featured as a performer at their concert on May 10th.

State Powerlifting Champs

A special congratulations goes out to our two powerlifters who took home gold in the state powerlifting meets. Daniela Maximo won first in the Texas state powerlifting meet in the 97.5 lbs weight class with a squat of 280lbs, a bench of 135lbs, and a deadlift of 290 for a total of 705lbs. Caleb Davis won first in the Texas State powerlifting meet in the super heavy weight class with a squat of 805lbs, a bench of 490lbs, and a deadlift of 575lbs for a total of 1870lbs.

The Harlingen High School South water polo girls team placed first on April 7th & 8th during a championship match. Senior, Celeste Zamora won MVP and said, "It was an extremely amazing feeling to become a part of our school's history."

UIL students competed in various events on Saturday, March 26th in Los Fresnos. Competitors included Rolando Garcia, Laura Garcia, Anna Marie Guerra, Aidan Arismendez, Sophia Castillo, Isael Badilla, Cristian Castillo-Rodriguez, Ethan Vega, and John Haraway.

Latin Qualifies for State

Congrats to our Latin team who qualified to compete and represent Harlingen South at the 2022 Texas Junior Classical League State Competition. Chase Roberts Signs With Our Lady of the Lake

Chase Roberts signed his letter of intent to play baseball at Our Lady Of The Lake University located in San Antonio, Tx. on Wednesday, April 20. Before the signing, Coach Gracia spoke a few words about Chase's hard work and dedication saying, "He's an inspiration to us and his teammates." Both Mrs. Roberts and Chase spoke emotionally about his baseball career. "I'm very excited and ready to start this new chapter in my life," said Chase.

The Ecology Club is holding a fundraiser to add benches to the Butterfly Garden and Outdoor Classroom. Sponsor Ruth Salazar says the packages come with engraving and believes it will leave a lasting memory at Harlingen South. There are 8 different packages to choose from. The Harlingen South Blue Knights teamed up with "Forever Beautiful SPI" in conjunction with adopt a beach. Students were there from 8am-12pm. It was a great experience. "We serve with pride".

Gear Up Leadership Conference

Harlingen South's Gear Up program hosted a Leadership conference for the Class of 2024 on April 14th. This event included special guests such as South’s head football coach, Israel Gonzalez III as the keynote speaker and YouTuber, Parker Coppins as closing Keynote speaker. Other special guest speakers included Joshua Howard, Rosa Hill, and Leo Araguz.
