Candidates' Social Hour/Hors d'Oeuvres: 6:00 PM
Program: 7:00 PM

Monroe Convention Center 302 S College Ave, Bloomington, IN 47403

Tickets for this event are sold out.

Your Monroe County Democratic Party is back in person for our newly re-imagined "Roosevelt Reception" annual spring event. Join MCDP and guest speakers for an evening exploring Bloomington's voice in international affairs. We welcome Dr. Elizabeth Dunn with Bloomington Refugee Support Network to share how our community has come together in support of refugees, and we welcome local voices tied to Ukraine and who volunteered to provide relief to Afghan refugees at Camp Atterbury.

In 1950, First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt came to Bloomington to present on US-Soviet relations at IU. We honor her time here in establishing the "Eleanor Roosevelt Keynote," with inaugural speaker Destiny Wells, a Lt. Colonel in the Army Reserve, attorney, Truman National Security Project alumna, and our next Indiana Secretary of State. Our next US Senator, Hammond Mayor Tom McDermott, will also deliver the Four Freedoms Remarks.

Prior to the program, attendees will have a chance to "speed date" the local candidates and compete for a chance to win door prizes!

Poll Inspectors, Clerks, and Judges Needed

Early voting has begun, and Election Day is on its way! Orion Saft is back as our Election Day Poll Recruiter to coordinate polling place staff at the nearly 30 polling locations for Election Day in May. Democrats always step up and we need you to dig in.

Job descriptions include:

INSPECTOR is in charge of each polling site. These positions require previous experience and an extensive knowledge of managing a polling location.

JUDGE is the Inspector’s right hand person, previous working knowledge of poll location recommended but not required.

CLERKS greet the voters, check IDs and hand out ballots.

Election Day shift is from about 5 AM until about 7:30 PM. Additionally, the Inspector will ask for about an hour of your time on the Monday night before to help set things up, understand the layout of the polling site and have a sort of meet and greet.

One training session is mandatory, even if you have filled one of these roles in the past. You MUST be registered to vote in Monroe County. Students ages 16 and 17 are allowed to fill the Clerk position, with written approval from their school’s guidance office.

If you are interested, please contact Orion Saft at 812-320-0389 or mcdempollrecruiter@gmail.com as soon as possible.

Thank you to our Four Freedoms Circle donors who contribute monthly to MCDP! In January 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt first spoke of the FOUR FREEDOMS in his state of the Union address.  He proposed four fundamental freedoms that people everywhere in the world should enjoy: Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Worship, Freedom From Want, and Freedom From Fear. Our belief in the Four Freedoms is fundamental to our identity as Democrats.  In much the same way, our sustaining donors – those who choose to support the Monroe County Democratic Party through ongoing, monthly gifts – are fundamental to the work we do every single day.  When you choose to make monthly gifts through ActBlue, our online giving portal, you provide critical support for the infrastructure, space, and staff on which we rely in all our work.
