Central Mall upgrades hit midway mark

Construction works to transform the Central Mall into a vibrant urban experience that supports both day and night-time activities in the centre has hit the midway point, with approximately three months of works undertaken and a further three or so months are still needed before works are complete.

The artwork from local students is getting a lot of attention as it guides people through the Shopping Centre and out to view the work in progress. There is a large amount of paving complete to check out, as well as the planter boxes and other features that will be ready to use when the works are all finished.

What is encouraging to know is that there is already interest registered to use the space when it’s complete, with discussions underway between the City and local businesses to host events in the second half of the year in the new precinct.

Gladys Newton Park nearly finished

Upgrades to Gladys Newton Park are nearing completion, with only a few more trees to be planted, a little more mulching to be done, and some sustainable recycled furniture being delivered soon for the BBQ area!

Before the upgrades, Gladys Newton Park was an older-style large reserve in High Wycombe, and lacked proper playground equipment and accessibility for all ages and abilities.

Community consultation on the project found that people were looking forward to the new accessibility features of the park as well as the new vegetation and natural elements. 88% of people surveyed said they were either excited or super excited about the upgrades to the park.

Suggestions from the community have contributed to the project, with ideas around improved lighting, shaded areas, and construction materials all taken into consideration.

A community open day is planned once the park is finished in late April/early May.
