Action Hour: We Need Your Input

As we return to in-person Action Hour, we are re-evaluating which date works best for the most people. We ask that you complete this very short poll about the days and times that work for you.  Note: we are limited to times when the church is available.

Until we tally the poll results, in-person Action Hour will be held on Fridays, 4:00-5:00 pm at the Congregational Church on Titcomb Street. Come write postcards together and catch up after these long months apart. As in the past, we’ll have packets of 10 postcards with addresses, scripts and postage for $5 a packet.

If you have been writing with our Postcards-to-Go team, we’d love to also have you join us at Action Hour for the camaraderie. Packets of 50 cards will be available during action hour in addition to the regular pick up option. If you would like to join our Postcards-to-Go team, please email us at indivisible.rise.newburyport@gmail.com or sign up at Action Hour and we’ll explain all of the details in person.

Persistence Happy Hour

Persistence Happy Hour will continue on the second Friday of the month! Between Covid, divisive politics, the war in Ukraine, and more, this has been a difficult time for many. Let's take this chance to spend time together again for friendship, moral support, encouragement and some laughs!  Plan to meet at Loretta on April 8th at 5:15-6:15, right after Action Hour. As always, the appetizers are on us!

I-RISE Activists: Inspiration Close to Home

Monthly Meeting
Tue. April 19, 7-8:15 pm.
Register here.

As campaign season heats up, and we prepare for the important work we’ll be tackling together, let’s look to our fellow activists for inspiration. Several I-RISE friends will share with us what motivates them, what keeps them going and how they turn their passion into action.

  • Elizabeth DeGrenier, Phone Banking
  • Paula Estey, PEG Center for Art and Activism
  • Monique Greilich, Salisbury Dems
  • Ann Haaser, Moms Demand Action
  • Becc O’Brien, Moms Demand Action and Common Cause
  • Ted Russell, Defenders of Democracy Against Disinformation
  • Ted Ruetenik, Stop Gun Madness
  • Karen Trowbridge, Newburyport Democratic City Committee and Mass Women’s Political Caucus

Register to join us on Zoom and hear these informative stories. In our May meeting, we will spotlight more swing states and the actions we can take to help.

Canvassing in NH

After the inspiring talk from Maddie Kolaja from the New Hampshire Dems, we are ready to canvass in Portsmouth!  There are canvassing opportunities in Portsmouth every Saturday; we are organizing a group to go on Saturday April 23 at 10am. No experience necessary; we’ll go in pairs and show you the ropes!  If you're interested in joining, email us at indivisible.rise.newburyport@gmail.com!

From April 1st through May 31st, all of the funds our group raises will be matched, dollar-for-dollar, up to a maximum of $500! Mark your calendar! On May 13th at 7:00, in lieu of Persistence Happy Hour, join us for the I-RISE fundraiser, to benefit both our group and important organizations like Common Cause. Details to follow.

Texting Hour

 Thursdays 3:00-4:00 pm. Register

Come join us to train to send political texts, refresh your skills if you haven’t texted in a while, raise questions, seek pointers, or just share friendly conversation and some laughs. We partner with Indivisible Acton Area to host these weekly gatherings, with interesting campaigns through Movement Labs. We’ve been texting people in critical states to register voters, encourage people to run for local office, increase awareness and enthusiasm for upcoming elections, get out the vote for primaries, and more. Register here to join us on Thursdays at 3-4 pm.

Multiple Phone Banking Opportunities

Mondays and Tuesdays, 3-5 pm
Wednesdays, 4-6 pm

We are hosting 3 weekly phone banks and hope to encourage more of you to give it a try as making phone calls is one of the best ways to make an impact with voters. Pick one (or more) that meet you schedule and your interests:

  • On Mondays at 3-5 pm, we partner with Field Team 6 to call likely Democrats in Pennsylvania to encourage them to register to vote or remind them to sign up again to vote by mail. Pennsylvania has tight races for Senate, Governor and a few House seats, plus they are facing stringent voting restrictions. Register here for the phone bank, and join us at our monthly meeting to learn more about the importance of Pennsylvania in 2022. (Meeting description and link are above.)
  • On Tuesdays at 3-5 pm, we partner with Field Team 6 again and with California Dems to register  likely Democrats in Georgia. This is another battleground state where every vote makes a difference to reelect Senator Warnock and finally elect Stacey Abrams as Governor. Register here
  • On Wednesdays at 4-6 pm, we make voter protection calls in partnership with Common Cause. These calls are critical and time-sensitive efforts to protect voters in key states. Register here to call with us on Wednesday afternoons or with another group almost any day.

Please consider signing up for even one shift and see how it goes. You may be pleasantly surprised!

Please sign up here to volunteer with I-RISE. Choose among numerous options and devote as much or as little time as you prefer! Every bit makes a difference!
