Welcome to our first newsletter of 2022

There has been much activity in the organisation as we enter our second term of the year. With time flying by at an alarming rate and so many changes and shifts in the education sector, we began 2022 racing ahead to keep our heads above the water.

In February, all Bitou schools began functioning at full capacity, after two years of learner rotation. The schools have been ardently embracing the many challenges wrought by these new changes.

As an organisation, all attempts have been made to alleviate the pressure on the Bitou teachers, by implementing projects which aim to consolidate key areas in education and to bridge the gaps experienced due to the COVID 19 pandemic.

With the support of our donors, sponsors, and partners, our 2022 Projects are up and running and we are looking forward to a fruitful year ahead.

Three projects are pending as we seek funding to address these key areas. Please share our newsletter with friends, family, and colleagues. The greater our reach, the closer we are in achieving our goals in 2022. Please contact, Sooneela Naina, for any further information regarding these projects.

MEET AND GREET

On March 10, 2022, the Bitou 10 Team met at Kwanokuthula Primary to enjoy an afternoon of light refreshment. It was wonderful to engage with our directors, contracted staff, donors, and operational staff, to share information about each other’s role at Bitou 10.

OUR NEW PARTNER
Plettenberg Bay Rotary and Bitou 10 have joined hands in supporting the Early Childhood Development (ECD) sector in Bitou.

There is a developing need in Bitou to provide support to the many unregistered ECD sites. In 2021, Happiness Petse (ECD Level 5 Bursary recipient 2018 – 2019) reached out to Bitou 10 for support in registering her ECD facility. Donors came to her aid and a partnership with Plettenberg Bay Rotary was forged to further support the project.

The Plett Rotarians recently hosted a fundraising event featuring world renowned saxophonist, Andrew Young, in support of the project, raising an amount of R16 000.

OUR LEVEL 5 GRADUATES (2020 - 2021)
Congratulations to all 7 ECD practitioners who completed their ECD Level 5 qualification!

A Graduation ceremony was held on Saturday, March 5th, 2022, where each ECD Level 5 graduate received their certificate from, Marietjie Gericke, Managing Director of Teachers Learning Centre, Johannesburg, and Susan le Roux, ECD facilitator and trainer.

The function was attended by Alain Leger, who sponsored the ECD Level 5 Bursary Project from 2016 to 2021, affording 21 practitioners the opportunity to complete the ECD Level 5 qualification. We are indeed grateful to Mr. Leger, for his incredible support over the years.
OUR DONORS, SPONSORS AND PARTNERS
