Crotty Center and DECA Collaboration
The Crotty Center has been sharing entrepreneurship knowledge at the DECA, The Hub, and GWDI Career, Creativity, and Entrepreneurship Collaboration. We have been working with thirty-six 9th graders to educate them on how to legitimize, digitize, capitalize a business in one session, and educated them on how businesses impact communities in another. The goal is to help them learn how to start, grow, and run social enterprises.

UD Entrepreneurship Club
UD's Entrepreneurship Club is a group of students interested in various facets of the entrepreneurship journey. We are currently having weekly speakers, reading books written by entrepreneurs as well as workshops on our current member's entrepreneurial ideas and projects. Also, we have started our own small business to put the advice we’ve been given into practice, as well as serve as a means of gaining real experience working in a small business environment.

Happenings at GWDI!

For three Saturdays in February, the GWDI kicked off the Business Blitz Bootcamp. More than 50 new and existing entrepreneurs learned how to legitimize, digitize, and capitalize their businesses.

We had representation from the Ohio Secretary of State, Dayton Human Relations Council, Flyer Consulting, the Montgomery County Administrator, University of Dayton, Small Business Development Center, BusiLife, Irene-Marie Consulting, the Small Business Administration, PNC Bank, Wright Patt Credit Union, the Entrepreneurs Center and local entrepreneur volunteers. We are so grateful that the GWDI was able to fund 17 completed LLC applications to do business in the State of Ohio 🙌🏾

Special thanks to the Montgomery County Employment Opportunity Center for being such a phenomenal host!

Cultural Capital Microloans
We were proud to support three local business owners with micro-loans this past fall in partnership with Flyer Consulting and Citywide Development. Congratulations to Twanna Drakes of Drakes & Associates, Tosha Howard of Tosha's Cleaning Services, and Zontaye Richardson of TheZe Dealz.

Strong is He Power Hour
Strong is He Power Hour is an intimate monthly event to help male entrepreneurs of color focus on mental health, generational wealth, the education system, the legal system, and other pertinent topics. We started this initiative in January and have seen it grow with positive remarks. Please contact Tywan Corbitt if you would like to join our April event.

UD Crotty Center Senior Spotlights!

Congratulations to two of our seniors who are graduating
this semester and pursuing their career endeavors.

Carolyn Haney is a senior studying Finance and Cyber Security Management from Cincinnati, Ohio. She started with Flyer Enterprises as a Sales Associate and has been promoted to various roles in Flyer Enterprise, the sixth-largest student-run business in the nation. Her success as a manager and executive left her yearning for a greater leadership role within the company. As CEO, Carolyn’s goal has been to rebound successfully from COVID while increasing company involvement on campus and in the greater Dayton community. She is grateful to Flyer Enterprises for all the skills she has picked up along the way in addition to the lifelong friendships she has created while interacting with other employees. Following graduation in May 2022, Carolyn will head to Charlotte, NC to work in the Commercial Associate Program at Fifth Third Bank, focusing on Commercial Banking in a two-year rotational program.

Elizabeth Anderson is a senior studying marketing, management information systems, and business analytics from Dayton, OH. Elizabeth joined Flyer Consulting as a freshman in the Spring of 2019. With various projects ranging from search engine optimization and organizational marketing tactics to donor base strategies and strategic growth, she thoroughly enjoyed her client work on the nonprofit consulting side of the organization. After being named President for the 2021-2022 school year, she has worked on several initiatives to continuously improve how the community views Flyer Consulting. Overall, Elizabeth is incredibly grateful for all the opportunities Flyer Consulting has given her and is honored to lead a group of such talented, hard working individuals.

Get Involved with the Crotty Center!

Join us in our programs, fellowships, and engagements.

1. STITT Scholars Cohort

This semester, the cohort has worked on seven projects. In one of the projects, a multidisciplinary team of business and engineering students worked with an entrepreneur to conduct market research and social media analytics and designed, conducted, and analyzed an experiment at the Innovation Center to test and compare the absorbency of a new product with competitors’. The results will enable the client to distinguish their products empirically to gain market share. The program is currently recruiting the next cohort for the 2022/23 academic year. It will be more exciting as we will be recruiting students from three disciplines: Arts and Sciences, Business, and Engineering. We expect to expand the program to further create value for more startup companies and entrepreneurs in the Dayton area while providing students with invaluable experiential learning opportunities. To learn more, contact Dr. Philip Appiah-Kubi at pappiahkubi1@udayton.edu.
