REGISTRATION IS HERE!
Dear Fellow Students,

It is registration day, and as a Global Studies student I am also registering for classes for Fall 2022.

Having worked closely on the Global Studies
course bulletin this semester, I wanted to highlight a couple of courses I am very excited about for next semester.

UGLB 3740: CRS: Resistance Narratives from 21st century Social Movements with Shanelle Matthews

This course examines how social movements build narrative power and change belief systems for an inclusive vision of society by looking at some of the most impactful social movements and movement moments of the last 20 years.

Shanelle is the communications director for the Movement for Black Lives, she was the first Activist in Residence at The New School. She also teaches in the Gural program for social justice at Lang.
UGLB 3545: CRS: Beyond Policing: Abolition and The US Carceral State with Ujju Aggarwal

This course expands our imaginaries through studying abolitionist projects as political analysis and strategy that works at multiple scales and at the intersections of race, class, gender, sexuality, (dis)ability, and migration.

For Fall 2022, this course will partner with Embody Transformation on an organizing initiative focusing on the intersections of reproductive justice, racial capitalism, and the carceral state.

UGLB 3760: CRS: Global Humanitarianisms with Patrick Ciaschi

In this course, students will learn the tools to critically analyze multiple humanitarianisms, and how organizational, religious, and ethical systems shape a multitude of conceptions around “crisis,” “dignity,” “care” and “suffering” across divergent contexts.

If you are interested in humanitarian aid and work in this field, this sounds like an exciting course to learn about these issues from a critical perspective, and also learn methodologies to work in this field.
ULEC 2862: Law and Social Change

This course is an introduction to the world of law from a critical and interdisciplinary perspective.

It is the main required course for the new
Law and Social Change minor.

Finally, we just released the course catalog for the Migration Studies minor, which you can find
here.

Good luck with registration and please get in touch if you have any questions or want to talk about this!
