20 South Dakota Emerging Arts Leaders will be awarded free registration to attend the 2022 State Arts Conference! DEADLINE APRIL 12!
2022 State Arts Conference Emerging Arts Leader Scholarships
Who can apply:
Emerging arts leaders (artists or administrators), based in South Dakota, between 20-35 years of age, OR an arts administration professional with less than 3 years of experience in their field.
What will you receive:
Free registration to the 2022 State Arts Conference, including one optional pre-conference track.
Application process:
1. Complete the brief application form including a single-page essay briefly describing your history as an artist or administrator in the field, age or number of years of experience, and what goals you have for your time at the conference.
2. We ask that scholarship receipts briefly summarize your experiences and top three takeaways from your time at the conference. Final summary due no later than June 15, 2022.
Deadline & Selection:
Scholarship proposals are due April 12, 2022. Recipients will be announced April 15, 2022.

Saksanica | Sisseton
The world premiere of a new Pioneer PBS documentary Saksanica will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2022, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Omníčiye Tipi community center at the Sisseton Wahpeton College. Through this documentary, award-winning filmmaker Leya Hale traces the traditions underlying the dress making culture of Lakota and Dakota communities.
The event will feature music, discussion and a meal. The event is free and open to the public.

Celebrate the artistic talents of the Northern Hills Area! The 43rd Community Art Show will be on display April 5th through the 29th.
The Community Art Show is free and open to the public during business hours, Tuesday – Saturday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., in the Matthews art gallery. From beginners to professionals, show registration is open to applicants of all ages, levels, and media. Registration is not limited to geographical location.

Personal Narrative Workshop with Storyteller Elizabeth Ellis | Virtual
In this workshop, attendees will learn best practices, techniques, and experience expertise coaching from Master Teller Elizabeth Ellis on crafting personal narratives in addition to collaborating with one another during breakout sessions through written and spoken activities.
Elizabeth Ellis grew up in the Appalachian Mountains. Invariably hilarious and poignant, she is a repeat favorite at the National Storytelling Festival. She was a children’s librarian at the Dallas Public Library before becoming a professional storyteller.
