Spring In-School Recruitment

In lieu of our traditional Roundtable and District Committee meeting,  we are taking advantage of a unique opportunity to enter Lex 1 schools!

NO Roundtable or Committee Meeting this week!

We have the green light to bring Scouters into the schools and help recruit new youth to scouting and WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!

An email went out requesting a leader show up at each school by 6:15 pm to welcome parents and students THIS Thursday, April 7 from 6:30-7:30 and answer any questions.  A Peachjar flyer went home to all Lex 1 elementary and middle school students, signs are posted at the car rider lines, and all Principals are on-board (hopefully sharing in their Announcements as well).

If you can help with this important night in any way, please see the list of schools below still needing help and contact Jerusha Keisler, Membership Committee Chair (803-530-8114).  We have folks volunteering at other schools, but if you would like to help there as well, please let Jerusha know.  She has info packets ready to go for each school at the Council Office containing registration forms, a list of all units in the district, pens, etc. Also, a table and chairs will be set up for you by the school near their entrance.

This is a district-wide recruiting push for ALL units.  If your unit is not the right fit for someone, please share our list of units and encourage them to visit another one.  Our ultimate goal is to bring youth to scouting!

The following schools are in need of a unit volunteer:

Elementary:
 Forts Pond
 Lake Murray
 Lexington
 Meadow Glen
 Midway
 New Providence
 Pelion
 Pleasant Hill

Middle:
 Pelion

This is said often, but never enough - thank you all for what you do for scouting!  Your efforts are truly making a difference - here in Chinquapin and across the council!

Our Camp Cards are in and ready for pick-up!

If your unit is interested in selling Camp Cards, please come by the Scout Office and sign some out.  These are a great way for Scouts to earn money to attend summer camp.

Camp cards are sold for $10 and the unit gets $5 commission.  There is no money to front to sell Camp Cards.  The sale will go until June 1, 2022.  See this guide for more information on the Camp Card sale.

If you have any questions on how your unit can sell Camp Cards, please contact Scott Hagler.
Last year, as part of the 90th Anniversary Celebration for Camp Barstow, we hosted I ♥ Camp Barstow Day in an effort to get Camp ready for the summer and raise funds in support of the camp we all know and love.  We are looking forward to hosting this event annually and pleased to announce that I ♥ Camp Barstow Day will be May 14, 2022!

Here is where you and your unit can get involved! Adopt a Campsite and/or Adopt a Program Area. This would entail your unit visiting Barstow on the weekend of May 13-15, 2022 and again at your discretion sometime in the Fall. These two weekends would be free of charge for the campsite, with the requirement being that the unit helps to take care of the site. How is this done???  It’s easy!  Level out the platforms under the shelter, clean cobwebs and mattresses, clean out the fire pit, fix any broken boards, repair tents/cots, etc. In general, help keep your campsite looking sharp for our guests during the Summer and Fall.

If this is something your unit would like to do, please
contact our Camp Ranger, William McCormick, and let him know which campsite/program area you would like to adopt. First come, first served on picking your site/area.

Here is another excellent opportunity to connect with our community and have a lot of fun as well!

Please share this event information with your youth, but also think about setting up a table and using this event as a recruiting tool for scouting.  If you have any questions or would like to have a unit table, please
contact Scott Hagler.
