April Meeting: Knitwear Designer Panel with Sarah Dawn, Mary Martin and Michelle Porter
|
|
Knitwear designers and TKG guild members Mary Martin, Sarah Dawn and Michelle Porter will enlighten and entertain us with their design processes. They’ll discuss the real cost of creating a pattern from start to finish, including tech editing and publishing. If you’ve ever considered test knitting, you’ll hear what’s involved from their point of view, and how this might be a stepping stone for budding designers to learn how to design and write their own patterns. They will also touch on the Glamour vs Reality, including the added time to manage social media platforms. You’ll hear about the highs and lows and come away with an appreciation of what is involved to deliver top notch patterns for us to enjoy.

TKG 25th Anniversary Knit Night Party!
|
|
Saturday night at the Faux Frolic is party night! We'll just start to scratch the surface reminiscing and celebrating all the woolly goodness. Joining us will be a few very special guests who were at the first guild meeting in January 1997.
To mark the occasion we are kicking off the TKG25KAL and the scope will be wide! Choose a pattern from any designer from the guild, past or present. Choose yarn from any yarn dyer, farm, or LYS from the guild past or present. Raid your stash if necessary... we know you've got a ton of yarn from past Frolic vendors, or get some fresh stash at this year's Frolic. Not enough options? Let's include any "friend of the guild" designers, dyers, guild speakers, LYS shops, and workshop teachers. Let's start to remember all your favourite moments and the people who made it special for you. We'll take this KAL even further... tailor it to your wishes... make it a CAL or Spin Along or Weave Along. Let's celebrate the wonderful creative community that has evolved into so much more than a monthly meeting. Come to the party with your ideas to share. We'll run this TKG25KAL until January 2023 and we'll celebrate again in style at our February Show and Share meeting.
And what's a party without prizes? We will draw for 5 guild memberships for the 2022-23 season. We really hope you'll join us on Saturday April 23 from 7pm - 8:30pm. Your Faux Frolic ticket includes the party. Stay tuned - we may have more surprises in store!

It is that time of year again when the Board is looking for additional folks to join in the fun of running the Guild and all its associated activities. We are looking for people who may be interested in helping out in volunteer, Board, or Executive roles.
As a volunteer, you would use your time and expertise to help out with specific events or activities. Volunteers in the past have worked on short-term committees (by-law review), helped with planning and implementing events (Frolic Vendor Coordinator), and developed presentations (member show and share). If you have an interest in helping with a specific event or activity, please do reach out at any time!
Board members have more continuing roles with a larger time commitment including four full Board meetings a year and working on dedicated committees (we will have Board opportunities including social media coordinator, content coordinator, and others available this upcoming year). These roles support the planning and implementation of the programs, partnerships, and communications of the Board itself.
As an Executive Council member, you would be contributing to the direction and decision-making associated with the overall Guild. These positions have monthly meetings and additional work outside those meetings. Opportunities for Executive Level positions are still being sorted and more information should be available soon!
All levels of interest are appreciated and welcomed. We've been fortunate to have a diverse group of people volunteer to work for the TKG, all of them having different interests, skills and abilities, and would love to have you join that group! We have volunteer, Board, and Executive opportunities available. Reach out to Tammy (president@torontoknittersguild.ca) to connect on how you can contribute to this amazing organization!
