Grants & Opportunities

Culture, Heritage and Arts Regional Tourism (CHART) Program

The Culture, Heritage and Arts Regional Tourism (CHART) program is a $3 million Australian Government program that aims to support community cultural, heritage and arts organisations in regional Australia as they recover from the impacts of COVID-19.

The CHART program promotes participation in, and access to, Australia’s arts and culture through developing and supporting cultural expression and sharing stories of community and historical significance. Community-run arts and cultural organisations – including community museums, galleries, and historical societies – will benefit from CHART program funding. The program will support these organisations to continue to offer appealing cultural tourism experiences to visitors, which in turn will enhance local expenditure.

The intended outcomes of CHART program grants are to:

  • Contribute to the reactivation and recovery of organisations from COVID-19, and to their ongoing sustainability, by providing grants for eligible activities
  • Promote regional arts and cultural tourism by supporting the development of appealing cultural tourism experiences, including through the preservation of Australia’s cultural heritage and the telling of the stories of local communities and
  • Support domestic intra- and inter-state tourism and local economies more broadly.

The CHART program is now open for applications. It will close when the funding allocation has been expended or on 29 April 2022, whichever is sooner.  Applications will be assessed in batches of 100, through a rolling evaluation process. Click here for further information and how to apply.

Saluting Their Service Commemorative Grants Program

The Australian Government is inviting eligible organisations to apply for grant funding under the Saluting Their Service Commemorative Grants Program (the program).

The program is designed to: preserve Australia’s wartime heritage; involve people around the country in a wide range of projects and activities that highlight the service and sacrifice of Australia’s service personnel in wars, conflicts and peace operations; and promote appreciation and understanding of the experiences of service and the roles that those who served have played in shaping the nation.

There are 2 categories of grants available:

  1. Community Grants (CG) Grants to a maximum of $10,000 are available for local, community-based projects and activities.
  2. Major Grants (MG) Grants between $10,001 and $150,000 are available for major commemorative projects and activities that are significant from a national, state, territory and/or regional perspective.

If your project involves restoring/changing a memorial, there may be heritage considerations. Information is available from your state or territory government heritage body, or at the Department of Veterans’ Affairs website.

Get Ready For Fringe Benefits Tax Time

The 2022 fringe benefits tax (FBT) year ends on 31 March, so it's time to start considering your FBT lodgment and payment obligations.

If your not-for-profit organisation has provided fringe benefits to its employees (or their associates) between 1 April 2021 and 31 March 2022, you may have an FBT liability for the 2022 FBT year, even if your organisation is exempt from income tax.

There are certain FBT concessions that can reduce your liability. However, it's important you know your organisation's FBT concession status so you lodge and pay correctly. Refer to FBT concessions

If you:

  • have an FBT liability for the 2022 FBT year, you must lodge an FBT return and pay your liability by 23 May 2022 (as the statutory due date of 21 May falls on a weekend this year). This due date may differ if you use a tax agent
  • don't have an FBT liability for the 2022 FBT year and you are registered with us as an FBT payer, you should complete a Notice of non-lodgment - Fringe benefits tax form by the date your return would have been due.

Don't forget to keep all records relating to the fringe benefits you've provided, including how you calculated the taxable value of benefits.
