APRIL 7, 2022

If we’ve said it once, we’ll say it a thousand times: using your hands to craft is good for your mental health! On this World Health Day, take a minute to think about the last time you created something artistic. Whether it was just yesterday or you can’t recall the last time, we humbly suggest taking a class with us to put your hands and mind to work learning something new from our skilled artisan instructors.

Upcoming in-person classes include a Writing Workshop, Nordic Peasant Knitting, and (simple!) Stone Carving. If you’re eager to take your learning outdoors, check out our Foraging series led by herbalist Heather Mashuga or Forest Bathing with certified Forest Therapy Guide Chris Brandt.

Wishing you good health—in body, mind, and spirit!

Writing Workshop
In-Person

Spring is coming! Let’s celebrate it thoughtfully and purposefully by writing about its newness, its springing forth in content and form, in a mix of genres. Poet and memoirist Marge Barrett leads this inspiring and helpful workshop on writing for those who want to advance their writing skills or for those who need some support as they start a project. Sign up now—this class is on Saturday, April 9!

Next Steps in Nordic Peasant Knitting
In-Person

Advance your skills by learning to knit a traditional Scandinavian hat! You’ll gain skills needed for proficiency in stranding and learn the separate ways for securing floats in the background and pattern colors, as well symmetrical decreases (k2tog and ssk) and the use of double pointed needles at the crown. Instructor Liz Towers leads this class on Saturday, April 23.

Stone Carving Made Easy
In-Person

With the last name of “Kraft,” you can trust that stone carver Greg Kraft has the skills to help you learn this ancient art—the modern way! Using an electric etching tool, limestone sourced from Illinois, and a selection of beautiful stencils, you’ll carve your own coaster during this introductory workshop with the opportunity to make 3 additional coasters at home. Register now for this class on Saturday, April 30.

Series Spotlight: Foraging

Herbalist Heather Mashuga leads a monthly foraging walk through the woods, helping you to notice and admire the multitudes of wildflowers and plants. You will discover how to use these plant allies to provide nourishment and healing.

This 7-part class begins this month and runs through October. Take the whole series or pick and choose the topics that speak to you. "Herbal Remedies" will be held on Saturday, April 30.
