Over the Hills and Climbing
I must say that my trip to Catalina with my friend Jason last week was incredible! It held many transcendent and wondrous moments. Our 7.7-mile hike in was full of curves in a way that I wasn’t expecting and it made my newsletter from last week especially prescient. To wake up to the sound of waves feet from the tent as my birthday month dawned was amazing.

One especially transcendent part of the trip was on the last mile to our beach-side campground. Clouds swirled over the spring-green hills as the sun slipped lower in the sky, creating otherworldly beauty.
Although most of what we hiked was thankfully flat, we did have some hills. Our day hike was one of the steepest I’ve ever walked, going from sea-level up to 1,100 feet at exceedingly sharp grades.
The trip and its hills remind me of something I thought last week before the trip: to climb the mountain, we must go over the hills. So with tomorrow being my 40th birthday (and the 99th day of the year), I’m feeling grateful for the hills and valleys that I have gone over and walked through. I’m thankful for you all who have been part of my journey along the way. I could write so much with all of the thoughts and connections I could share on such an occasion, but with celebrating to do, I'll leave us with this blessing:

May we all experience moments of wonder and transcendence as we head over hills and hike our mountains.
