With the beauty of Spring upon us, we are delighted to bring in fresh new work from many of our gallery artists. Among others, painters Anne Belov, James Tennison, Peggy Woods, and Teresa Saia have contributed some beautiful new work, as have sculptors Georgia Gerber, Sharon Spencer and Dan Freeman. We have wonderful glass by renowned glass artists Fritz Dreisbach, Steph Mader, and Dan & Joi LaChaussee, as well as fused glass houses by Dale Reiger, engaging assemblages by Sara Saltee and Pam Kueny Taylor, and intimate 24 karat gold paintings on copper by Mary Ellen O’Connor.
Also included in the month’s exhibit are handmade furniture and cutting boards, fine jewelry, ceramics and fiber art, as well as a wide array of other beautiful art objects sure to bring delight.

Welcome to the 2021-2022 Whidbey Art Trail
The new 2021-2022 Whidbey Art Trail visit artist’s studios, galleries and sculpture parks. The Whidbey Art Trail has reopened for the 2021-2022 season and now offers an even broader variety of participants. There are 24 stops island-wide, from sculpture parks, gallery spaces and large studios, to personal art-making spaces off the beaten track.
Studio visits are encouraged and every Whidbey Art Trail member is following Covid-19 safe guidelines. Information about when studios are open and an easy-to-use map with directions are available online at whidbeyarttrail.com and in print at all participating locations and on Washington State Ferries.
Wander the Trail to find that special painting you’ve been looking for, experience the joy of discovering sculptures in unexpected places, talk with fascinating artists and learn their stories, find high quality galleries and see the best of what Whidbey artists have to offer. Have you ever been to Seattle’s Museum of Flight and walked underneath all those massive airplanes suspended in the air above you? Dick DeLay hung all of those. We were happy to learn that Dick, a long time professional rigger who is now semi-retired, lives nearby in Greenbank on Whidbey Island. Even though our cable suspension system for Daniella Rubinovitz’s Flying Fish was previously reviewed by an engineer, we proactively connected with Dick for a professional check-up. Dick determined a way to both strengthen and simplify (for aesthetics) the cable suspension system. Then, to everyone’s delight, Dick became so supportive that he graciously volunteered all of his expertise and efforts for the community.

Praised by The Boston Globe for her "compassionate calm and a warm, glowing tone," stellar soprano Danielle Reutter-Harrah joins baroque violinist Tekla Cunningham and harpsichordist/organist Henry Lebedinsky in this moving, deeply personal, and emotionally-charged program of sacred music by Johann Pachelbel, Antonia Bembo, Heinrich Biber, Claudio Monteverdi, and more. Combining the drama of the opera house with the fireworks of the concert hall, this music takes you on a journey from deepest sorrow through faith, hope, and, ultimately, the triumph of the human spirit.
The program includes the heartbreaking Virgin Mary's Lament by Antonia Bembo, a Venetian composer who fled to France to escape an abusive husband, never to see her children again. Experience the breathtaking virtuosity of a violin sonata by Heinrich Biber, whose use of alternate tunings and sonic effects pushed the boundaries of 17th century violin technique to their limits. The program also includes a lush and evocative motet by Johann Pachelbel, one of the century's most influential composers and teachers who deserves to be known for much more than his 'Canon.'

Whidbey Earth & Ocean Month

In 2006, a group of environmentally concerned artists and community members began meeting at the Bayview Cash Store on South Whidbey Island to discuss organizing a community art show to commemorate Earth Day, observed annually all over the world on April 22.
Each year, more events were added and today Earth Day is celebrated during the whole month of April as Whidbey Earth and Ocean Month.
Earth & Ocean Month activities are open to all ages, political backgrounds, and experience levels. If you’re interested and willing to get your hands a bit dirty, take a look at our events calendar for upcoming opportunities.
