Assistive technology is a term for assistive, adaptive, and
rehabilitative devices for people with disabilities and the
elderly. People with disabilities often have difficulty
completing activities of daily living independently, or even
with assistance.
Assistive technology promotes greater interdependence by
enabling people to do tasks they were formerly unable to
complete. Assistive technology can address many safety
needs that are brought up by those who know and care for
people with disabilities. Addressing these needs with
technology offers greater autonomy for those needing the
technology supports.
Learning objectives:
1) Discover both low tech. and high tech. ideas
2) Gain knowledge about recently developed technology
3) Explore safety devices that enhance interdependence
4) Learn how you can explore assistive technology devices
5) Hear information about the statewide assistive technology
loan fund
Staff of the Michigan Disability Rights Coalition will give a 3-
part, interactive presentation series starting on April 13,
