Gift Registry Grassroots has set up a Charity Registry at Target so donors can purchase household supplies for residents moving from the shelter into their own new apartments. The gifts range from $5 gift cards to sheets and lamps. Volunteer Coordinator Monteith Mitchell has posted the housewarming items needed. See the wanted list here.
Healthy Meals If you belong to an organization that is looking for a community service project, suggest members prepare a healthy meal for Grassroots residents at the shelter. Volunteers are always welcome to fix lunch or dinner for the 50 individuals and family members who are being helped by Grassroots counselors to find more stable housing and services so they can improve their circumstances. If you don’t cook, consider a carry-out or delivery order from a local restaurant.  Find suggestions for good meals here.

In recognition of its 20th anniversary, the Women’s Giving Circle of Howard County presented Grassroots, one of its nonprofit partners, with $2,000.  In addition, two women living in the Grassroots Cold Weather Shelter were the recent beneficiaries of $1,435 to help with car problems that were preventing them from working.  The money came from WGC donors who heeded an Emergency Response Network request.

Grassroots is grateful for the expertise of Columbia-based Health Tech Alley in helping us select Electronic Health Record software to meet the expanding needs of our 24-7 crisis intervention center and the successful launch of the Outpatient Mental Health Clinic. Generous partners are essential in serving vulnerable individuals in the community.  Thank you especially to Robert Zimmerman and Dr. Arti Patel Varansi, two of the founders of the company.
