It's been a month since Russia started to attack and occupy the Ukrainian territory, forcing people to flee their country and seek asylum all over Europe. The lack of educational integration of Ukrainian school student refugees is a reality!
We stand with Ukraine and through this statement we raise concerns about the situation of Ukrainian school students and their integrations in the education system in other countries

International Women's Day

On the 8th of March,  International Women's Day, at OBESSU we took our time to celebrate women's achievements but we also used it as a reminder that the road to gender equality is still a long way ahead.

Gender discrimination in childhood and youth is affecting especially world’s girls that are being denied their rights, their right to education and their right to exist without being faced by violence and discrimination.

OBESSU took part in different strikes together with some of our Member Organisations. Our Members released a statement  to raise awareness upon the dire worldwide situation of women's rights today.

The voice of apprentices in the European Year of Youth, big and loud!

After several attempts, we finally managed to meet in Barcelona with the European Apprentices Network and the European Alliance for Apprenticeships to talk apprentice voice! More than 100 people came together in the beautiful city of Barcelona to discuss the role of apprentice representation in the European Year of Youth. But what did we discuss over these 2 days?

➡️ Giving a real voice to apprentice and stop using them as a decorative token
➡️ Bringing apprentice mental health to the top of the list. And no, we don’t need another meditation app, we need good pay and working conditions!
➡️ Creating more representative structures is a top priority! We need countries to commit to enable participation
➡️ We need to much better on affordable housing, fair pay and inclusive mobility opportunities. Invest that cash, governments!
➡️ One apprentice can have a voice, but a group in constant exchange can promote real change!

From 18th to the 20th of March, our Board Member Alexandra, altogether with the representatives of student and youth organisations from the globe, had the chance to meet and finally connect in one place, Tanzania. The caucus, hosted by the Global Campaign for Education, aimed to create spaces for young people, to reflect the issues to tackle after/or still while the Covid-19-pandemic.

‘’ What I take back to OBESSU is the motivation and inspiration that I was able to get from around 20 co-activists. It is a loud reminder that our solidarity is not just empty words, but that it should be real and practiced everyday. For all the dances danced, food eaten, discussions shared, and inspiration gathered – I want to express my deep gratitude.’’
