City Commission Meeting Recap


The City Commission of Eudora held its regular, semimonthly meetings on Monday, March 14, and Monday, March 28, 2022 at City Hall.
  • Awarded Sands Construction LLC the 2022 Pavement Management Program, which includes Section G Mill & Overlay and Alternate No. 1 - Section 1 Curb Replacement, in an amount not to exceed $449,172.98.
  • Approved the allocation of $300,000 for the execution of the youth sports anchored STAR Bond economic development initiative and authorize the City Manager to spend the allocated funds in the preliminary STAR Bond activities including but limited to feasibility studies, infrastructure planning, land control. sports programming, grant services, among others.
    • Approved Addendum #3 with Vieste, LLC and authorize the City Manager to execute the Addendum following City attorney's final review.
  • Approved Resolution No. 2022-03, setting a public hearing pursuant to K.S.A. 12-1752 on May 9th, 2022 at 7:00 p.m., City of Eudora City Hall, Commission Chambers for the consideration of unsafe or dangerous structures for the property located at 1035 Maple Street.
  • Authorized the City Manager to execute the 2022 Main Lift Station and Force Main Replacement Project contract with Crossland Heavy Contractors, Inc., including the base bid and alternate number one, for an amount not to exceed $2,606,649.50.
  • Approved proceeding with funding the sewer improvement projects as proposed by staff and approved Resolution No. 2022-04 not to exceed $4,000,000.
  • Awarded Harbour Construction, Inc. the 2022 Pavement Management Chip Seal Program, which includes Section 2 and Alternate No. 1 - Section 1B, in an amount not to exceed $58,632.80.
  • Reviewed the 2021 City of Eudora Annual Report
  • Vice Mayor Ruth Hughs announced her resignation, effective May 31, 2022.

Conservation Conversations

 
The Douglas County Conservation District will be hosting an informational event on Monday, April 21 at 6:00 p.m. to discuss different conservation programs available and how to apply for them. Guest speakers will be in attendance from the USDA Farm Service Agency, Natural Resources Conservation Service, in addition to the Conservation District. Refreshments will be provided.
 
Seating is limited to the first 35 registrants. Interested parties may RSVP online or by calling 785-843-4260, Ext. 3.

A Message from the Senior Foundation of Eudora


Seniors - Mark your calendars! The next Friday Fun Day will be held on Friday, April 8, 2022 from 1:00-3:00 PM at the Eudora Community Center.

County ARPA Funding Application

 
Douglas County is accepting grant applications for American Rescue Plan (ARPA) funding. The deadline for applications is on Monday, May 2 at 5:00 p.m.

Funds can be used for qualifying expenditures that occur between March 3, 2021 and December 31, 2024. Projects should fall within one of these categories:
  • Public Health - Vaccination, testing, contact tracing, prevention in congregate settings, PPE, assistance to small businesses, non-profits and impacted industries, community violence interventions, mental health and substance use services, and other public health services.
  • Negative Economic Impacts - Household assistance, unemployment assistance, health childhood environments, long-term housing security, housing support, social determinants of health, medical facilities for disproportionately impacted communities, strong health communities, addressing educational disparities, assistance to small businesses, assistance to non-profits and aid to impacted industries.

Electronic Recycling Event


Spring cleaning? Need to get rid of old electronics?

The Lawrence-Douglas County Sustainability Office has partnered with Teknix Solutions to host a county-wide electronic recycling event on Saturday, April 2 from 8:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. in KU Lot 301 on KU's West Campus. Teknix Solutions will accept items such as microwaves, televisions, laptops, keyboards, cassette tapes and gaming systems.

Cruising Cupboard


Just Food of Douglas County's mobile pantry, the Cruising Cupboard, will be available at the Eudora Public Library on Thursday, April 28 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. This service is available for all Douglas County/Eudora residents who qualify for food assistance within Just Food's guidelines.
