Approaching April:
Partnering for Positive Change

At African Diaspora Network, we value our partners and the possibilities that stem from the collaborative work we do. We are delighted to bring you ample opportunities and options to engage. Our network is diverse and interested in a variety of timely topics and issues related to Africa and the Diaspora, and ADN works to tailor our events to the network. As we approach April, we encourage you to attend our upcoming events on women's issues, startup ecosystem-building, and the solar and renewable sector:

Skoll World Forum Ecosystem Day 2022

According to a report by FOA, The State of Food and Agriculture (SOFA), on average, women make up about 43 percent of the agricultural labour force in developing countries. If these women had the same access to productive resources as men, they could increase yields on their farms by 20 to 30 percent, raising total agricultural output in these countries by 2.5 to 4 percent.

According to UNICEF and Inter-Agency Task Force on Rural Women just 39 percent of rural girls attend secondary school. This is far fewer than rural boys (45 percent). Every additional year of primary school increases girls' eventual wages by 10-20 percent.

If provided equal resources to men, women can excel. In what ways are women continuing to make significant strides in the face of challenges? How can we better support women and invest in women-led organizations? Join us for Skoll World Forum Ecosystem Day 2022, "Paving the Path Forward: Investment in Women."

U.S. – Nigeria Accelerator/Startup Connector

The U.S. – Nigeria Accelerator/Startup Connector on April 13, 2022, brings together Silicon Valley-based accelerators and VCs who will share how they are working with global tech firms in the U.S. and abroad. You’ll also hear from Flutterwave, known worldwide as Nigeria’s most recent fintech gazelle, as well as FoodLocker, a leader in Nigeria’s fast-growing food delivery market. Flutterwave and FoodLocker will share best practices and their own set of “golden rules” that any start-up can apply.

Tying these elements together are U.S. government experts from Prosper Africa, the U.S. Department of Commerce and the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos, who will share how to engage the many government resources to support tech startups in the U.S. as well as those that want to be here.

This program is hosted by the Silicon Valley-based African Diaspora Network, whose mission is to harness and engage the intellectual, financial, philanthropic and entrepreneurial capacity of Africans and friends of Africa in support of economic and social development across Africa.

April ADIS22: Energizing Investment in the Solar and Renewable Sector

Join us April 27, at 8AM PST, for April ADIS22: "Energizing Investment in the Solar and Renewable Sector."

Solar and renewable energies are rising as a commercially viable resource across Africa, being cheaper than coal, diesel, or gas. Recognizing that fossil fuel energies tend to be historically concentrated across the developed world, there is a huge opportunity to leapfrog energy infrastructure in Africa through decentralized solar grids that accommodate and optimize for renewables. This session explores models of effective renewable energy output across Africa and opportunities for future expansion of investment in solar and renewable energies.
