Can we please talk about how irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is NOT just about food?

So many practitioners put people like you with poop problems on restrictive diets to 'fix' your IBS... I have a problem with a few of those things...

First, irritable bowel syndrome is a descriptor of your symptoms; it doesn't tell us anything about the 'why' behind what's happening. 

Second, if food is fermenting in your gut, giving you gas, making you constipated, or having diarrhea, it's not the food's fault - it's the bacteria that live in you that are opportunistic and doing the fermenting. Let's work on balancing your gut flora (bacterial life in you).

And, MOST IMPORTANTLY, let's address your nervous system which needs to be in some sort of "safety" mode for you to be able to digest, absorb, detoxify, and eliminate well. Often, when people like you are put on restrictive diets, that increases anxiety and then works against your digestive function :-(
