"The way we manage conflicts needs to take neurodiversity into consideration"

"I know that neurodiversity is a huge umbrella that includes many different types, including autism, dyslexia, dyscalculia, sensory integration disorder, dysgraphia, synesthesia, anxiety, and many others. For the sake of this topic, I’m going to simplify it into “thinking and processing information in ways that may not be typical of how most people think and process information.” I’ve been thinking about this a lot because with everything that’s been going on and how stressed everyone is, I’ve been seeing a lot more conflicts in the sector. Some of it is heartbreaking, including conflicts I’m involved in, with and among people I care deeply about.
Unfortunately, the conflict-resolution tools and techniques we’ve been relying on don’t always work, or are actually making things worse, because these tools and techniques were designed with neurotypical people in mind, with the grounding assumptions that everyone involved in the conflict will have the same thought patterns, the same way of absorbing, interpreting, and communicating information." April is Arts, Culture, and Creativity Month!
In 2019, Californians for the Arts (CFTA) successfully campaigned for the state to recognize and celebrate the arts by declaring April as Arts, Culture & Creativity Month (ACCM)!
CFTA directs this annual month-long spotlight on the arts to raise visibility and awareness about the value of our sector, to empower arts advocates to take action, and to spur greater investments in our industry and workforce.

People Who Make a Difference!

"Together we are building safe spaces for youth, fostering creativity and expression, helping families heal, protecting our natural resources, and mentoring students.
Together we are providing families with needed resources, connecting storytellers to a professional network, and empowering a new generation of community organizers.
This magic is thanks to the vision and hard work of nonprofit partners and the generosity of donors helping make our community more fair and just through their gifts to the Rise Together Fund for Racial Equity.
Grants from the fund are collaboratively decided upon by Rise Together Santa Cruz County, an intercultural coalition. Funding is used to advance racial equity initiatives as we work to increase opportunity for all. To continue this work in 2022, we invited a diverse group of 11 new leaders to join us."
