April brings the culmination of so much hard work and education for our Club.  Our GCA Flower Show is set for Tuesday, April 26, 2022.

We are hoping for 100% participation in this exciting event. Whether you're a volunteer or an exhibitor, it will be a fantastic learning experience for everyone.

There are a handful of openings left in the Floral Design classes. Please consider registering. Grab a partner and do it together! To register, please email gardenclubofchevychase@gmail.com.  Include your name, class, email, phone number and GCA club.  Deadline is April 12, 2022.

Everyone is encouraged to enter the Horticulture classes, which does not require pre-registration.  Simply take a cutting from your own garden.  See below for best practices and cheat sheets on how to enter a Horticulture class.  Don't forget about Propagations (from our fall workshop)!

The week before the event, please check your email for a complete "Everything You Need to Know about the Flower Show" primer!

Make sure you put the Cocktail Party on your calendar.  We want to celebrate everyone's hard work together that evening!

Download the Flower Show Flyer here, which you can print and share with friends.

A reminder that the most important thing you can do in the next couple weeks is to read the schedule and familiarize yourself with the rules.

Horticulture Workshop

This week's Horticulture Workshop via Zoom educated us how to properly prep and submit a cutting in the horticulture section of a Flower Show.

If you missed it, but would like to watch, click here for the link.  Password:  ^bdOx?E7

Here are some helpful cheat sheets for Horticulture and Propagation entries.  You can also find these in the Members/Resources section of the Club's website.

The night before the Flower Show, on Monday, April 25, 4pm-5:30pm, Mimi McBride will help with plant identification for horticulture entries at her home.

If you'd like some inspiration, check out this Daffodil Show from the Garden Club of the Northern Neck.

Native Plant of the Month
Brandywine Viburnum

The Brandywine Viburnum Viburnum nudum is a rounded deciduous bush great for the edge of woodlands or as part of a border.  This beautiful bush is happy in sun or part shade, and is very low maintenance.  Cream colored flowers appear in May through June, and make way for stunning purple, pink and blue berries by fall.  The Brandywine’s leaves change to colors from scarlet to burgundy as well, making this an amazing gorgeous native addition to any garden!  Prune in the fall if desired, keep moist in the summer and enjoy!
