Date and time: Tuesday 26 April 2022 | 6pm to 7:45pm

Imagine speed dating, but getting to know NSW and ACT universities. Hear why you should consider our participating universities for future study – in just 5 minutes!

UNE’s Early Entry has been running successfully for more than 30 years. Early Entry is open to all Year 12 applicants and relies solely on a school assessment of student attributes and abilities to determine their suitability for entry. The assessment is based around the student’s ability to work and learn independently, as well as their overall potential for academic success at UNE.

Students can apply to UNE early, receive an offer and secure a place at university, even before ATARs are released. This gives students certainty to begin making other arrangements such as where to live and finding part-time work.

What does a Meteorologist do?

Meteorologists are weather scientists who use specialised equipment to analyse and track weather patterns to make long and short term predictions. In some cases your work could help to save lives by warning people about approaching systems and giving them time to leave. Some Meteorologists have high profile jobs on the TV or radio for example, while many others work behind the scenes. If you're interested in Earth Science and helping people through your research this career might suit you.

Competitions

The School of Mathematics and Statistics Research Competition provides school-aged students with the opportunity to understand what it means to conduct mathematics and solve mathematical problems.

Students will be given a set of open-ended research questions from which they choose one. They can then employ methods used by mathematical researchers to investigate their problem; they can gather data, simplify, visualise, hypothesise, conjecture and prove. The aim of the competition is to allow students to use their creativity and problem-solving skills to make choices about how best to ask and answer questions about their chosen project. As teamwork is a valuable and essential skill for research, students are encouraged to participate in the competition as part of a team which will provide opportunities to reason and work collaboratively with others. Students may participate individually if they wish.
