Veterans Suicide Prevention Policy Summit
For those that serve or have served, crises can be heightened by their experiences during military service. If you’re a veteran or a service member and in crisis, there are many resources that can help. My colleagues on the Veterans Committee are hosting Suicide Prevention Policy Summit focusing on helping veterans and those who serve.

According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, in 2019, in Connecticut, it was reported there were 44 veterans that died by suicide. Suicide among U.S. adults and veterans have increased across the U.S. from 29,580 in 2001, to 45,861 in 2019. The average number of suicides per day among U.S. adults rose 55.0%, from 81.0 in 2001 to 125.6 in 2019. Across the same 18-year period, the average number of Veteran suicides per day rose 4.5%, from 16.4 in 2001 to 17.2 in 2019.

Suicide is preventable. There are resources available. The summit will be held virtually and will be held this Friday,  April 1 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Click here to register for the summit and to receive your Zoom Link.

Rumble Strips Installed On Buckland Road
The state Department of Transportation recently installed rumble strips on Buckland Road from Oakland Street to Deming Street, intended to improve road safety in the area. There may be more stripes installed along Buckland after repaving occurs; the strips create a noise some consider a nuisance, so the strips were only installed in a primarily commercial zone at this time.
