Campaigns and media reports about working conditions in the clothing industry in Asia have in recent years made "made in Europe" appear as the ultimate alternative to factory accidents, starvation wages and exploitative working conditions.
On closer inspection, however, locations in Europe are by no means a guarantee for decent working conditions and better wages.
The AFA Community Online-Talk focuses on factories in Eastern and Southeastern Europe, where both leading brands and small and medium-sized companies manufacture and claim that work is carried out in better conditions by using the reference "made in Europe". We will talk about the background of the production conditions in various countries of Central, Southern and Eastern Europe and discuss the question of what fashion designers should consider in their purchasing practice in order to promote humane working conditions.
The work of the Clean Clothes Campaign (CCC), whos network is active worldwide and advocates for better working conditions in the clothing industry, will also be presented.
The link to the online talk will be sent via e-mail about an hour before the start.

SUPPORT UKRAINE:
AFA connects fashion scenes
Promoting and supporting the networking between designers, business, culture and creative people is one of the main focuses of the Austrian Fashion Association.
In this spirit, we now hope to offer space to Ukrainian fashion designers and other creatives working in the field of fashion, to make their stories heard and connect with the Austrian fashion industry via our channels.
The Austrian Fashion Association also acts as a matchmaker between Austrian and Ukrainian creative people in the fashion sector and would like to bring together Ukrainians who are looking for a job or freelance work in Austria with people/companies here that offer jobs in the respective areas.

Ukrainian fashion designer Ksenia Schnaider founded the label KSENIASCHNAIDER in 2011 together with her husband Anton, a Russian graphic designer. She sent us this message:
"When the war started, I was in Kyiv with my family. After a few terrible days, we decided to leave our hometown for somewhere safe. Since then, we've been to nine places, three countries. Now we are in Germany, but all we want is to be able to return home where there is peace. My team consists of 30 women who have all been forced to stop their jobs as safety is now the priority. Now we are slowly reopening our online sale and are grateful for every order from our customers. All our clothes are made in Ukraine."

Right from the start, freedom and provocation have been the driving force behind the Kiev "couture-to-wear" label FROLOV, which deals with topics such as the lives of transgender persons, BDSM ethics and aesthetics, fetishism and the LGBTQ+ movement.
The label has launched a fundraising campaign for the production of bulletproof vests, which can also be supported with the purchase of an NFT from an artist collaboration.
