Brunswick County Board of Elections to Conduct Voting Machine Tests

Bolivia, N.C. – The Brunswick County Board of Elections will begin logic and accuracy (L&A) testing on Monday, April 4, for the upcoming primary election. L&A testing ensures the voting system will correctly count and tabulate each ballot cast.

“Before every election we complete logic and accuracy testing,” said Sara LaVere, director of the Brunswick County Board of Elections.  “It is just one of the many steps we take to ensure integrity in the elections process.”

The primary election will be held on Tuesday, May 17.

During the testing, ballots of each style are coded for a mock election and run through the tabulator. The tests check the voting system’s ability to read each ballot style and the accuracy of the tabulator when counting votes. A bipartisan team oversees the preparation of the machines and ballots and conducts the tests.

After testing, election staff will reset the equipment to ensure no L&A test information remains on the system heading into the elections.

The testing is open to the public. There is limited space available for members of the public in our office.  Those wishing to watch the process are encouraged to view the daily live stream.  We have planned for a full week of testing; however, the testing could conclude prior to Friday or carry over into the following week.
