Please Welcome Our New
OVPAA Team Members!
Lori M. Michael, MSKM
Database and Faculty Appointment Specialist

Lori Michael joined the OVPAA last fall as the database and faculty appointment specialist. Lori’s duties involve processes for faculty appointments, promotions, and reappointments and maintenance of faculty records in Banner. She provides administrative support to college non-tenure track appointments and promotions committees and responds to data requests for internal and external reporting on faculty.

Prior to NEOMED, Lori served as the honors thesis coordinator and special assistant to the dean at Kent State University’s Honors College. In 2018, she earned a Master of Science in Knowledge Management degree at Kent.

Lori and her family live on a 100-acre farm and raise beef cattle. She and her akita, Turbo, clock multiple steps each morning by feeding the cows before she arrives to the office.

Lori is in room A-123. She can be reached by email at lmichael@neomed.edu or campus phone at 330.325.6721.

Andrea Coard
Academic Affairs Specialist

Andrea Coard joined the OVPAA in March as the academic affairs specialist. Andrea will provide significant support and project management to multiple standing committees of the university including University Faculty Council (UFC) and related task forces and groups, the University Nominating and Membership Committee, the University Bylaws Committee, and all college Committees on Academic and Professional Progress (CAPP). Andrea also orchestrates academic policy development and approval as well as mandatory state reporting and special initiatives in the OVPAA. With Janel Koellner, director, faculty development,  Andrea coordinates the production of the Faculty Newsletter. Working with UFC leadership, she will also soon reconvene the faculty Exceptional Experience Group (EEG).

Andrea brings a rich background of administrative experience in higher education institutions from Northern Ireland and from the University of Akron (UA) where she worked with various academic programs and services. Andrea joined NEOMED’s Office of the President in 2020 serving as the primary point of contact for President Langell and provided project support for multiple university initiatives and councils.

Andrea is in Room A41-A, inside the Academic Services suite. She may be reached at acoard@neomed.edu or, if you would like to hear a lovely Irish accent, you can talk with her by phone at 330.325.6398.

FROM THE UNIVERSITY
Reaffirmation of University Accreditation through the Higher Learning Commission

NEOMED is preparing for its 10-year Comprehensive Evaluation and Site Visit by its institutional accreditor, the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). The HLC evaluates the quality of NEOMED’s operations, educational programs, resources, and planning as a university based on the HLC Criteria for Accreditation.

Since last Fall, approximately 70 faculty, staff, and a student trustee have been involved in drafting NEOMED’s Assurance Argument and Evidence File, a type of self-study narrative with supporting documentation. The effort is being led by NEOMED’s HLC Steering Committee, chaired by Jeff Wenstrup, Ph.D., professor of anatomy and neurobiology, and the offices of the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Institutional Research.

To gather student input on the quality of NEOMED’s programs and services, the HLC conducted a Student Opinion Survey of all NEOMED students in April and will share survey findings with HLC’s reviewers and NEOMED ahead of the site visit in late summer.

On September 12 – 13, a team of HLC Peer Reviewers (i.e., volunteer faculty and administrators from institutions accredited by the HLC) will be on campus to conduct interviews with various leaders and groups to verify the claims made in the Assurance Argument and evaluate NEOMED’s compliance with the Criteria for Accreditation.

All faculty are asked to become familiar with NEOMED’s preparations for the reaffirmation of accreditation by the HLC. Please visit NEOMED’s website on the Higher Learning Commission’s 2022 Site Visit or contact Deborah Loyet, NEOMED’s HLC accreditation liaison officer, at dloyet@neomed.edu
