Some of our favorite moments take place in March - Open Data Day, International Women’s Day, the United Nations Statistical Commission, and the Commission on the Status of Women. These moments offer an opportunity to pause and reflect on progress and necessary work ahead.
We proudly celebrated the endorsement of the “Open Data by Default” principle by the UN Statistical Commission and a commitment by the International Energy Agency (IEA) to remove data paywalls and unlock the world’s energy data supply to use in the fight against climate change.
But we would be remiss not to recognize the invasion of Ukraine earlier this month. While official statistical operations normally undertaken by Ukrainian statisticians have been disrupted, their value holds strong. Data will become increasingly important in both the immediate response to the conflict and long-term recovery efforts.
