Principal's Message

Lenten Prayer

Merciful Father/ Loving Mother,

I know that the tiny sacrifices I make this Lent

can never serve as a real penance in my life.

But help me to make my whole life

one of following your Son.

I am filled with your love.

Let your love shine out from within me

and guide my life in this sacred journey

toward the Easter joy you offer me.

Amen

                                            --------------------------------

Dear Parents,

Please join me in welcoming Mr. Breton Abbondanzio, the new Music Director/Teacher in our St. Mary community starting April 25th. He is originally from Massachusetts and has been a musician for most of his life. He and his family recently moved to the Hagerstown area from Brattleboro, Vermont where he was Music Director/Teacher at St. Michael's Church and parish school (Grades PK-12) for 3 1/2 years. He is looking forward to meeting the students and families here at SMCS.

It wouldn't be Maryland without one last gasp from winter.  With the weather warming up and spring break on everyone's mind, there are a few reminders to keep in mind.

  • Warm weather (Spring) uniforms return on Monday, April 25th. Students can always wear their regular uniforms at any point in the year but they should not mix regular and warm weather uniforms.

  • Spring Break begins on Thursday, April 14th and runs through Sunday, April 24th. The school and offices will be closed during this time.

  • Looking for ways to get involved? Help our faculty and staff during lunch and recess time! Playground supervisors work with faculty, staff and administration to ensure that the school's health and safety rules are followed as well as interact with students and encourage appropriate play and student behavior. Consider signing up to volunteer.  Volunteers are greatly appreciated.

After we return from Easter break, students in grades K-8 will be starting the Family Life program. At St. Mary Catholic School, we use the Benziger Family Life program which reflects and reinforces a major priority in the Church today: the preservation of the fundamental importance and sacredness of the family. Through this program, your child will have the opportunity to develop healthy attitudes, moral values, and virtues of Christian family life.  Students are bringing home a letter, parent connections, form, and additional resources for parents to review.  The Parent/Guardian Declination Form which must be completed and returned only if you want your child to opt out.  Declination forms are due to homeroom teachers before April 12th.

With the light of Christ shining in our hearts,

Mrs. Hanner

Interim Principal

“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.”

— Matthew 7:7-8
