Planning Considers What Could Change…
Everyone who knows me, or has attended a program I have presented, is painfully aware that I feel that good planning is overall planning; taking into consideration every facet of our lives. To be thorough, we need to consider what could change in our wealth planning, family dynamics, tax planning, charitable goals and retirement planning. Since retirement is the “change” we look forward to and dread all at the same time, that’s the theme for today’s opening letter!
Retirement is the start of a new chapter with the opportunity to explore new goals (no, not just sleeping in…). Yet, as with all change, there is an element of uneasiness over “the mystery of the unknown.” Am I really financially prepared? Will I still be able to feel a part of things that are important to me? I know, because I am moving into my “next chapter.” I have been doing my “overall planning,” and while I feel comfortable that I have covered all of my bases, there is always that element of “what if…?”
The articles in this newsletter may focus on planning your estate, but your retirement plans are very much a part of that activity. The article Is It Time to Downsize and Declutter Your Estate? focuses on preparing for change. Remember, estate planning isn’t just about transitioning your wealth to others, it is about planning for you! Also included is the article 10 Reasons Giving From Your Will Is a Good Idea, which reminds us that planning today means enjoying every “chapter” of our lives.
If you want to discuss planning for you and your loved ones, contact the Schoolcraft College Foundation. They will help you find the path that is right for you! May your every “chapter” be enjoyable “nonfiction” and not a “mystery.” Happy planning!
Sincerely,
Christopher Kelly
