Fire Damages Westside Home in Elgin

900 Block of Scott Dr.

Elgin, IL – On Tuesday, March 29, 2022, just before 11:00 a.m., members of the Elgin Fire Department responded to the 900 block of Scott Drive for a report of a possible structure fire.
 
Responding fire companies found a single story home with fire burning throughout the garage and through the roof.  The first crews arrived on scene in just over three minutes.  Fire crews deployed three hand lines to extinguish the fire, which was brought under control approximately thirty minutes after the arrival of the Fire Department. The home suffered extensive damage with initial damage estimates in excess of $250,000.
 
The home was occupied at the time of the fire and the residents were able to escape. One cat perished in the fire, however, firefighters were able to rescue one dog from the home. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries reported. The home is uninhabitable and the Elgin Fire Department Fire Investigation Team is investigating.

Make sure you have properly installed and maintained smoke detectors in your home and/or business. Smoke detectors are the first line of defense during a fire event. Test smoke detectors each month and make a habit of changing the batteries twice a year, like when you change your clocks.
