New Addition To CTAHR Internships Program!

The ASAO office has been hard at work connecting with our CTAHR community and stakeholders to help create successful employment paths for you! Many of these opportunities are great placements for 492 Field Experience courses!

LOTUS & LIME is partnering with CTAHR to open up THREE student internship positions, one in business, social media, and as a Seamstress Assistant!

This amazing opportunity will give Fashion Design and Merchandising Students an incredible view of all aspects that go into designing, creating, and marketing a clothing brand. Lotus & Lime represented Hawaii at New York Fashion Week in 2022 and are constantly working, dressing celebrities, at Pop-Up Mākeke, and at Merrie Monarch!

Research & Extension Fellowships in Biocultural Restoration and Management 
May-December 2022

If you have a passion and interest in learning about and managing ecologically and culturally significant ahupua'a in Hawaii, we are offering year-long fellowship opportunities for undergraduates enrolled at the University of Hawaii. Fellows will work with a team of UH faculty, stewardship organizations, and community members to do hands-on work in the field, carry out priority research projects, and give back to the community and the 'aina.

Position requirements:
● Age - Applicants must be at least 18 years of age by program start date.
● Education – Undergraduate enrolled at a University of Hawaii campus; completed one
to two years of full-time coursework. Maintain enrollment through December 2020.

Benefits:
● $5000 stipend from REEU program; $1000 in project supplies; $500 in travel expenses
● Kupu VISTA internship, including education award, available for fellows at select sites
● Eligible for internship or directed research course credits (check with your academic
major)

Field Research Assistant

Pay Rate: $17.35

Qualifications: Familiarity with Hawaii's diversified agriculture industry's common pest and diseases, edible cropping systems, soil health and farm equipment. Possess computer proficiency with word processing and spreadsheets. Possess driver's license. Able to travel to Pearl City and Waimanalo to perform field work.

Duties:  Install and maintain field trials in accordance to PI's written and oral instructions. Summarize research field data, computer input of research data into spreadsheets and databases, and design of educational materials for public distribution. Primary duties will include field work and crop maintenance at the Waimanalo Research Station and Urban Garden Center.

Veterinary Surgical Technician/Assistant
Oahu Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals

Duties: Teach two-three lab sections of FAMR 380L, and provide support for the co-requisite class FAMR 380: Research Methods or other courses as needed. Work collaboratively with teacher of FAMR380 and other graduate assistant to assist undergraduate students in learning survey and research project development, data analysis, basic computer spreadsheet analysis, or research presentation preparation, and other assigned

Primary role will be to assist in all practices and procedures of surgical support for the Oahu SPCA's Spay & Neuter Clinic. Responsibilities include patient check-in, patient prep, monitoring, recovery and discharge. Assists or performs tests, vaccinations, and treatments of animals as directed by the veterinarian. Cleans instruments and wraps surgical packs. Maintains the highest standards if cleanliness, sanitary and safety conditions. Provides constant humane care and handling of the animals. Answers animal related questions and provides client education. Utilizes care to develop cooperative relationships with all coworkers and supervisors.

May be needed to assist with community vaccination clinics and wellness clinic. Must be able to thrive in a fast paced environment. May be needed to travel to neighbor islands.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the provision of a warm and welcoming shelter environment of Ho’okipa (Hospitality).
  • Provide leadership and coordination of the guest service team’s efforts in the delivery of services to IHS guests.
  • Develop and administer the policies and procedures that have a positive impact on the lives of all IHS shelter guests.

  • Work collaboratively with clinical services to ensure the health, safety and welfare of all IHS guests are met.

Fishery Policy Analyst
National Oceanic Atmosphere Administration










 

As a Fishery Policy Analyst, you will perform the following duties:

  • Support U.S. interests in the conservation and management of living marine resources and their habitats, especially in cases of migratory/transboundary fish stocks and protected species with the aim of adopting advantageous fisheries agreements with other countries and effective conservation and management measures in regional fishery management organizations (RFMOs).
  • Implement the terms of fisheries agreements with other countries and conservation and management measures adopted by RFMOs, particularly through the preparation of regulations and supporting analyses as needed under applicable statutes and mandates.
  • Maintain up-to-date information on emerging environmental science, analytical techniques, and other bodies of knowledge.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support, such as administrative and technical support to advisory bodies, project management, meeting arrangements, budgeting, procurements, and grants.

Apply for a Future Organic Farmers grant! $5,000 grants are available for higher education and vocational students studying organic agriculture and production.
Are you studying organic agriculture at a community college, in an undergraduate program, or in a vocational training program? 

Apply for one of our $5,000 higher education and vocational grants! Last year’s grants supported students who are studying to be organic mixed vegetable and fruit growers, organic agronomists, and organic dairy farmers. The CCOF Foundation is proud to support students who will dedicate themselves to produce organic food for a healthy world.

Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP)

UROP coordinates and promotes opportunities for undergraduate students across ALL DISCIPLINES at UH Mānoa to engage in faculty-mentored research and creative work.

 

UROP accepts Project funding applications (up to $10,000) in the Spring from 2/2-3/3 and in the Fall from 9/9-10/10, as well as Presentation funding applications (up to $5,000) on the first of each month. Students from ALL DISCIPLINES are encouraged to apply!
