ACADEMICS

Planet Texas 2050 Symposium, Decarbonization Study

Solar panels line a field on a sunny day.
Planet Texas 2050’s annual research symposium: Resilience Research in Action will take place from Monday, April 11 - Thursday, April 14 with multiple presentation formats and opportunities for dialog and exchange. Learn about the work of Planet Texas 2050 project teams and partners, as well as that of other researchers, students, and artists exploring diverse and intersecting aspects of resilience. Read more here.

The United States will get only partially toward deep reductions in greenhouse gases with the policy tools currently available even in the scenario most favorable politically to decarbonization. That’s the finding of a recent study published in Energy Policy by an interdisciplinary team of UT researchers that looked at the political feasibility of deep decarbonization in the United States. The results suggest that new policies and tools will be needed to reduce greenhouse gases from sectors such as heavy industry. Read more about the study here.
