Welcome to the VLN Primary School March Pānui
Kia ora koutou katoa, Kia orāna, Talofa lava, Malo e lelei, Nĭ hăo 你好, Annyoung haseyo 안녕하세요, Namaste, Assalām alaikum, Hola, Bonjour, Hallo!
Our Pānui this month leads with a case study from one of our rural schools, Waitoriki near Inglewood. It explores why their students are learning online and how they are supported in their learning. Thanks to Waitoriki for sharing their story and Kōtuitui online teachers network for supporting the development of our recent case studies.
Today we held a Meet the Teacher zoom session for our schools and their whānau, so it is fitting to introduce you to our new eteachers. We have five new and returning eteachers. We are really pleased to be working in partnership with Ko Taku Reo to support NZSL in our schools and welcome their kaiako James to join our eteacher team.
Our eteacher team of 17 kaiako, teach 48 classes every week to 684 learners from 54 kura. That's a lot of online learning happening in NZ primary schools!
Over the Back Fence from Rosmini College continues to provide opportunities for ākonga to connect locally and globally with a range of student led projects that all schools can participate in. This is a really good example of schools contributing to the VLN kaupapa by opening up opportunities for all learners. Ka rawe Geoff for your longstanding work in this area!
Our Rural & Remote Schools group has been participating in the MoE Student Wellbeing Measures project this term. Find out more about this project and how our rural group are adapting this to run online across their 6 schools. The Student Wellbeing project runs until the end of term if you are keen to participate.
From the VLN Primary Governance Group, we are advising of our upcoming AGM in May and would request that all our participating schools have someone attend. We are a membership based organisation, and your schools' contribution is important. Last year we had advised that we were working more closely with our secondary colleagues. We can now advise of plans to merge secondary and primary. Business as usual will continue for our learners as we bring together our new organisation in the background. We will consult on key aspects and keep you updated as we progress.
From our friends at the Science Learning Hub, an upcoming webinar to assist you with planning for Science Week in May. Join the webinar and check out their online resources.
How many of your kids love K-Pop? Get them involved in North Asia Cape competition to encourage their interest in South Korea. Although the main prize is suitable for Auckland students, I am sure we could support them to offer Virtual K-Pop dance lessons!
On that note, we still have some spaces available in our Korean classes (funded by the Korean Education Centre). Get in touch if you have interested learners.
Finally I hope that you are all keeping as well as can be expected at this challenging time. Get in touch if you need any advise or support for flexible online learning.
