Changes for 3rd April
Our morning service will be taken by Michael Chester as Victoria Etherington, who was planned to preach, has tested positive for Corona virus.

The board game afternoon at Acomb has been cancelled for this month due to illness.

Time Capsule
Last weekend we opened the Young Church millennium time capsule during the service. We also found items in it from another time capsule, put together in 1984. Some photos of the contents can be seen on our facebook page. We will have them on display in church in a few weeks time (after York Open Studios).

Palm Sunday
This year we are joining with both St Chad's and St Clements churches for our Palm Sunday service. We will start at 10.30am at St Chad's, then walk (or drive) to St Clements for the second half of the service, including communion. Then we return to Southlands for refreshments (which will be as part of the York Open Studios refreshments). If anyone needs transport to/between the churches, please let a steward know.

Maundy Thursday
We are planning a Maundy Thursday Passover meal, on the 14th April 6:00pm. This is open to Holgate, Southlands and Acomb churches. We start at 6pm to allow for families to join us, and it will be quite interactive.  The meal will be a lamb stew, but we can cater for special diets, so please note these.  We are charging £5 for adults and £2 for kids. Spaces will be limited to 50. Bookings can be made by email: southlands.church@gmail.com or via the sign-up sheet that is in the refreshment area of Southlands.

The Dragonfly Schools Foundation
This foundation was set up five years ago by two educationalists from the York area, Ian and Sue Bretherton, to create life changing educational opportunities for children and adolescents living in Rajastan, Northern India, who would otherwise receive little or no education and thereby remain trapped in a cycle of poverty and social exclusion. The two founders visited the area regularly until the start of the pandemic, setting up a school for younger children and arranged practical training and apprenticeships for older pupils. The work is still continuing, albeit subject to restrictions caused by the current situation.

We are privileged to be having a visit by Ian to our Monday Fellowship Meeting on April 11th at 2.30 pm. He will speak about the work and the talk will be illustrated by numerous photographs taken on their visits. This is an open meeting and all members of the congregation are cordially invited to attend. Refreshments are served afterwards and there will be opportunity to chat with Ian and ask questions.

Huntington Easter Fair
Huntington Methodist Church are holding their Easter Fair on Saturday April 9th from 10am to 1.30pm. There will be refreshments including morning coffee and lunches, and various stalls including cakes, crafts, gifts, jewellery and plants . Proceeds for Church funds.

Palm Sunday at Melbourne Terrace
There will be a service on Sunday 10th April at 3pm for former members at Melbourne Terrace and friends (all welcome). Led by Revd Ian Hill.

Rounders Game
Acomb are organising an “inter-church” rounders game on 21st May at Carr Junior School in Acomb. It’s aimed mainly (but not exclusively) at families attached to Lidgett, Acomb, Holgate and Southlands. All welcome. See poster below.

Praying for our Circuit
Thank you, God, for everything that we already have. You provide everything we need to thrive and yet we put our focus on accumulating more and more stuff that we don’t actually need. Help us to think more carefully about our consumer choices, about who and where we shop, and how often. Help us to support one another in this challenge to appreciate what we already have and change our habits so they are more in line with equality and sustainability.
Amen

If there is anything you would like included in these weekly emails, please send them to me by Friday lunchtime.

Regards, Naomi

The magnolia, in memory of Alan Grewer, was looking great flowering in the sunshine last weekend.
