Dear Friend,
As spring approaches we turn our attention to new beginnings and express our appreciation for the many blessings we enjoy. At Dorchester Bay, we know that we are fortunate to live and work in a vibrant, energetic and compassionate community.
In this season of renewal, we are excited to see housing and commercial developments literally springing from the earth and beginning to blossom. We have broken ground on our 9 Leyland Street senior housing community, and the historic Pierce Building home is also getting some love from the good folks at Kaplan Construction. 9 Leyland will be a cheerful, energy-efficient neighborhood asset, and the beautiful brick façade and the Pierce Building’s architectural details will once again present a welcoming face to Upham’s Corner.
It seems particularly appropriate that the promise of these two projects will be front and center as the sun begins to warm the community.
We’re also mindful of the fact that structures are, after all, just brick and mortar, and have meaning only when they serve people or advance a worthy objective in some form or fashion. No one in our Dorchester Bay family understood this better than our colleague John Mahony.
As many of you know, John passed away in February.
We will have the opportunity to come together to remember John’s life and legacy on April 30, 2022. Celebrating all that he gave us, we will be reminded of his important work and generous spirit.
While we’re on the topic of celebration, I’d be remiss if I didn’t draw your attention to the lead story in this month’s newsletter. After two years of pandemic restrictions, we are planning a return to in-person fundraising revelry on September 22, 2022, at Venezia Restaurant. Please mark your calendars now for what will surely be an enjoyable event celebrating our friends, partners, community and the work we do together.
As we head into spring, we will have many more opportunities to do good work, to make new friends, to support each other and to build a stronger and healthier community.
I am sure that we will continue our work, mindful, as John Mahony was, that every structure we build and every effort we make must represent and reflect our values, and must underscore that compassion and equity are our highest objectives.
With best regards,
Perry B. Newman
